So it's a sad day in Corgiville, Tasha has left for the bridge to meet her many corgis.

Tasha Tudor, an author, illustrator and poet, died today in her Vermont home. She was born Starling Burgess and later had her name legally changed to Tasha Tudor. She was one of the most prolific and revered illustrators of all time. Her career spanned nearly 75 years. Although most of her books were children's books, even as an adult, I still enjoy them. Her most famous (IMO) are the Corgiville books. If you've never seen her work, you should. It is absolutely beautiful and has charmed many children over the years, including me. Her last Corgiville work was "Corgiville Christmas", but my favorite is "Corgiville Fair".

So tonight as we watch the stars, I'll say a litlle prayer that Tasha has been reunited with all her beloved corgis, Farley Jr., Mr. B., Missus, Megan, Caleb, Snap, Farley, and Corey.

FYI, Cathy Santarsiero, a MyCorgi member and artist herself wrote a wonderful tribute to her on her blog, which links from her page. If I knew enough about how to do links I would, but............

I too have been a great fan of Tashas. Her art work captured such magic of times past and the true personality of our corgi pals. I have quite a collection including several prints, some cards that I have saved, several books and my prized figurine of Caleb Corgi....the detective corgi in the Corgiville Fair books. I am sure her cards will continue to be available for a time. Usually my chosen source at Christmas. God speed Tasha....you touched many lives.

Back a couple of years ago my wife got to meet Tasha.

To make a long story short, the Tudor family has tours of the property in Vermont, one of which Linda got a ticket to.

We went over from our home in southeastern NH early one Saturday morning. We had Bryon with us who was about 6 Months old at the time.

We got there and were greeted by her grandson Winslow and two of their Corgi’s with Winslow saying “Hey – I love your dog”. Byron got to run and play with dogs as folks got ready for the tour. The family (Her son and daughter-in-law, grandson and his wife) was incredibly friendly and down to earth. I got into a very interesting philosophical discussion with Winslow.

The tour lasted for about an hour and a half viewing all the properties they have. Linda, being a gardener, completely enjoyed the experience.

As the tour was ending, the guests were brought to an area to meet Tasha. They were enthusiastically greeted by her Corgi Meagan. Linda found her to be rather frail but mentally sharp as a knife.

While they were gone for the tour, I went for a walk. There was a group of Japanese tourist - described to me as a Garden Cub who had come over from Japan for this. Tasha from what I was told is a big deal in Japan. Their driver got lost on the way to the Tudor’s so they were running behind. As I was walking down this dirt road I came upon them. Let’s put it this way – the cameras’ came out when they saw Byron, thinking he was one of the famous Tudor Corgi’s. It was comical trying to explain to then he was not one of Tasha’s dogs.

I was just thinking about taking a trip to her place the other day, they have an "open day" every year.
