Once again, a beautiful corgi has passed through our rescue. The picture shown on my home page is now of Kelley, and 11 1/2 year old sable female. Her owner is suffering with Altzheimer's and has been relocated to a nursing home. Sadly, no family member was able to take Kelley in and care for her in her twilight years. She is now being looked after by Humane Animal Rescue Team (HART) in Los Angeles. Her bio on their site (http://www.hart4dogs.org/hart_dogs.htm) reads as follows:

Beautiful "Plus Size" Kelly is an 11.5 year old purebred Pembroke Corgi. As sweet as she is beautiful, Kelly came to HART via the concerned adult daughter and granddaughter of Kelly's Alzheimer's stricken guardian. Unaware she was grossly over feeding Kelly (who like most dogs couldn't say no), the loving Corgi ballooned to 43 pounds (she should weigh 28-30 pounds). Fearing her extra weight would dramatically shorten her life, the family appealed to HART to take her in. Now under veterinarian supervision, she is exercising, eating a restricted veterinarian prescription diet (supplemented with steamed vegetables, vitamins and minerals). She is already beginning to play with her toys again. She is an absolute a sweetheart. She's good with other dogs. She walks well on a leash. She is very fond of soft bedding and lots of human attention including "rubby-dubby" cuddles where she can place her head in your lap and be petted, spoken to softly and kissed. A Corgi lovers dream. Despite her extra pounds, she is in very good health. She was housebroken in the home and travels well in the car.
