Hunter and Layla graduated from Puppy Kindergarten last night!!! =) They had to pass a final, involving everything we've learned over the last 8 weeks of classes, and they both did really well! "Leave it" was the only thing that gave them a little trouble. But admittedly, seeing a treat and not eating it is asking a lot! I have been working with them on leave it while we're walking especially, and they've been getting a lot better. So we'll just keep working! The trainer also commented that Layla walks on a leash particularly nicely. And Hunter only pulled once. I'm just so proud of my pups! And I would definitely recommend a class like this if anyone is considering it. I've never had dogs before these guys, just cats, and the class was as much for me as it was for them. It taught me how to teach them. I know without a doubt they would not be doing so well with all their commands if we hadn't taken the class, even if I had worked with them anyway. Over the 8 week course we learned sit, down, stay in both sit and down, drop it, leave it, take it, loose leash walking, heel, how to greet people nicely, and some fun tricks too - an Army crawl, where they lay down and then crawl along the floor (so cute!!!), shake, and roll over. No way could I have taught them all that in 8 weeks by myself!!!!
Last night we had a little graduation ceremony after their final. They got their diplomas and we took pictures of them in a little graduation cap, which was not particularly thrilling to any of them, especially Hunter! Got some cute ones though. I'll post them when I get to Tampa and have MY computer set up (I'm using my roommate's right now).
So today we are leaving Atlanta. We're going to stay at my parents' house 2 hours south of here tonight, and then we move to Tampa officially tomorrow! The pups have always done well on the drive but this time I'll have my cat in the car too...I'm going to put our baby gate between the front and back seats with Jagger up front with me (he just sits on my lap) and the puppies in the back. Should be okay.
