George woke us up about 2:30 Monday morning throwing up and with severe diarrhea. I have never seen a dog throw up so much or have such terrible diarrhea. We called our vet on Monday as soon as she was open and she had us bring George right in. His little paws were soaked from sweating and he was very limp. I thought we were going to lose him. The vet ran tests and blood work and everything came back negative. She kept him and put him on an IV. Tuesday, she started him on small amounts of canned ID and he is holding that down. Tuesday evening she let us take him home with medication and a strict diet of four small meals a day of canned ID. The vet tested him for all sorts of things and all we can figure out is he ate something in the yard, possibly a mushroom. He is doing better today, but he is so hungry being on such a restrictive diet. He is like a Hoover vacuum picking up all sorts of things in the yard. I almost think I need to put a muzzle on him when he goes out to keep him from eating everything he sees. He eats everything from sticks, leaves, bugs, bunny poo, etc.

My vet was concerned that he had parvo even though he was vaccinated against it. She said that sometimes young puppies, don't develop enough immunity against parvo. When she told me that, I cried, because I know how serious parvo can be. I was so very very glad when he tested negative for it. Thank you for all of your get well wishes. I have been reading them to George while he sits on my lap at the computer.

Hi Laurie. I am so sorry to hear about George. You must have been so frightened. I hope he feels better soon. A muzzle may not be a bad idea for the time being.
