We picked up Trice from the breeder last night so he can spend the weekend with us at our apartment. We gated off the kitchen for him, complete with a crate, pee pads, toys and food/water at feeding times. The breeder says he is completely house trained at her house. She also has a large yard for him to play in. We live on the 2nd floor, so there is no yard for us.
When he's in our kitchen area he pees and poops on the pads but when he's outside in the living area, he pees on the carpet. We also put pads in different areas of the apartment (by the door, in the hallway). I don't know if he thinks our carpet is grass but it's happening. I think I'm mistaking his "sniffing around" to just getting to know his new environment. I've missed the signal three times now and am very frustrated with myself. As soon as he does that, I was told to tap his nose and let him smell his urine and take him to the pee pad to finish emptying out.
I've been playing with him all morning to get his energy level up and stimulate him but he likes to lazy around and sleep. I'm not sure if this is normal or if he misses his family (his mom and dad live at the breeders also). I'm not sure if the peeing on the carpet is a sign of a type of depression or adjustment.
Because he's 11 weeks, he's only had 2 shots (3rd shot is in the next couple weeks). Breeder said we shouldn't take him to any parks, especially dog parks, due to risk of parvo. I totally get that but I just hope he's not too bored being inside b/c we don't have a yard. We move into our condo with a yard next month and will have Trice full time. So I hope that by us taking him on weekends doesn't push his progress backwards.
On a positive note, he is so delightful. He loves being next to me and laying down at my side. He also loves to be rubbed in his belly and he fell asleep on his back at one point. It was absolutely adorable. =) Anyway, I just felt it was necessary to document his first day with us and see what happens!
