The Cliche Butt-Drag
Well, I thought we figured this problem out, but I suppose I was wrong. Cheez-it has a hot-spot right next to his butt and he pulled his hair out at the same location, it looks horrible. I noticed it last night and it is in an area where it could be worms or an anal-sac problem.
I oatmeal bathed him and gave him a good furminating and E-collared him for good measure until I could take him to the vet (which doesnt open until Monday!). He has quickly learned that he can sit and "chase his tail" in a seated position to drag his butt on the floor and he is obsessively doing it. I had to crate him to get him to stop. It's driving me nuts to watch so I can only imagine how it must be for him.
I cant believe how he went from perfectly normal to "itchy-butt so bad he would chew his fur" out in a single day. Walk-in's open up at the vet at Petsmart at 3pm. Not sure if I want to take him there, but I would like to get this taken care of ASAP. Guess that is what we will do.

Cheez-it's pretty cool with his now, but then again, he has had to wear it on several occasions and he's not even neutered yet!

yepp its the normal kind that splits down the side with two buckle clasp thingys. Bailey was squirming like i was trying to cut his head off. he was nuts. now its on and it wont come off for a week! =X

I have mastered the art of e-collaring. You simply need to put it on like a normal collar. (Assuming it's the kind that splits down the side and snaps together to form the cone). Whenever I tried to slide it over his head he went nuts.

awww poor cheez-it. =*( i hope you guys find a long term solution soon.
bailey was neutered on friday. anyone who can manage to put a cone on a dog should win an award. i swear it took me forever to get him to stop wiggling (well he never did and i had to leash him and hold him down =T)

They think (and I agree) that he is allergic to flea bites, and stray fleas do hop on him occasionally even though they just die. The bites still bother him though.

Henry had the same issue just a few weeks ago. It ended up to be a reaction to a food he'd been eating for months. Natural Balance Duck and Potato.Two days after stopping it he looked at me like what's all the fuss... The vet was sure that wasn't the problem, but he sure got better fast after. The pet store I buy my dog things from contacted the company and they said they didn't have any other complaint of this nature.

They told me about the pee'ing. He will take his first dose after dinner, I took him to the beach after the vet so he wouldnt hate me so much. I am going to clean his "wound" and then start with the pill/spray/pee routine. I bet he needs to stay away from sunlight like we Humans do when we take antibiotics, that will not fly well with him. He is one expensive dog today, thats for sure.

poor cheezit... yup, the Rx sounds about right, avoid bathing him till this heals up, frequent bathing will dry up the skin and cause the itch even worst. I know some vets would Rx prednisone to make them sleepy so that they would sleep instead of chewing. But of course it has its side effects. Get well soon!

Sounds right to me. I've had two allergy dogs. Courtney was given the allergy spray and shots.
Just so you know, steroids may make him pee uncontrollably. Trunks had a allergy problem causing him to chew his paws raw. He was given steroids as a treatment. Poor thing peed in his crate at 4 in the morning, and then later in the morning peed by the door while I was opening it to take him out. While he was peeing by the door, he looked at me like "What is going on?" This was after he was completely housetrained.
I am thinking about poor little Cheez-it and hopefully he will be back to normal soon!
