I brought my puppy home last Friday. He is a very happy little boy. Thanks to the breeder (who started crate-training him some time ago) he slept through the first night (and other nights) without any whining or waking up in the middle of the night.

He is very corgi-smart. He already learned "sit" command. Now he follows me everywhere and sits every minute, looking me in the eye. Of course, he gets no treats for that unsolicited sitting, but still it's very funny.

My cat is really upset about his presence. She keeps hissing at him. We separated our first floor rooms with baby gates. Charlie has dining room and living room, and cat has kitchen. We are going to keep it until she calms down.

I am so happy I have Charlie now!

Thank you all so much for your kind words, and all the advice! I hope too the cat can adjust. Too bad she is not so gentle as Lou Ann's cat!

Hurray for you! He is adorable! I am lucky in that my breeder also started the crate-training, Vash is so good in his crate. My cat doesn't really get along with the puppy, but he adapted pretty quickly. I am so lucky to have such a great feline. It may take awhile for the cat to adjust, but hopefully she'll learn to tolerate Charlie. Good luck!

What a pecious little guy! And smart, too! Already figured out that sitting usually brings treats.

Having the baby gates up so the cat can get away from the puppy is the smart thing to do. When I brought Duncan home, my old male cat had never seen a dog. So, he had the whole upstairs to go to for peace and quiet. Duncan was never allowed upstairs, and still doesn't try to climb the stairs. It took the old cat almost a year to be able to come down without a puppy running up to him to play. And then, I bring in another dog, who would chase strange cats. That was fun breaking her of that! As long as the cat would walk by slowly, she would just watch him go by. But, as soon as he scittered, she would be after him. Poor cat, he was a 15 pound gentle giant. Never tried to claw or hiss at them.
