Do I need to expect a lifetime of a stubborn corgi? Ein is a little over 6 months and he has just been terrible lately! We got him neutered last week so we thought he would mellow out a bit after it. However, since he has been neutered we are unable to take him to the dog park or the doggy day care, because he can't get his stiches wet and it is harder to monitor him at those places. So, it seems he has bundles of energy but he just doesn't use it appropriately. He gets a 1/2 mile walk in the morning before we leave for work. Then he is locked in the kitchen during the day. As soon as I come home I take him for a 1 1/2 mile walk. But, he just doesn't get tired at home. He will continuely bite us (yelping "Ow!" doesn't seem to work), steal the remote, bite our shoelaces, chew on clothes, rip up kleenex.. do I need to go on? He can be such a good boy, he knows some commands very well, but he seems to have selective hearing when we use "Leave it" or "Drop it". I know that a tired puppy is a good puppy, but since we can't take him to the dog park or anything like that, he is driving us crazy. Any ideas on how we can get him to stop biting or leave our clothes alone would be most appreciated.

Ein is the type of dog to get obsessed about something. Our trainer suggested putting some of his kibble out in the lawn for him to search it out. However, days after we did this he was still searching the lawn for the kibble (even though we no longer saw any) I think we would have a worse situation with a laser pointer, but thanks for the suggestion.

If you have trouble exercising him I recommend getting a laser pointer as well :) great when watching movies or cooking and you don't have time to actually get down and dirty with your pup.

Tina, Charlie Bear will be 6 years old in a few weeks and yes, a lifetime of stubborn corgi is pretty normal for him. He is very smart and EXTREMELY stubborn. As soon as I think he has "grown out" of certain irritating behaviour - he shocks me back into reality and does it again. But, I wouldn't trade him for any dog in the world. In fact, if he didn't have so many skin issues (allergies) and shed so much, I would have an entire house full of corgis. As far as the biting thing goes, Charlie still mouths and plays rough with Dad. I always told him "no biting" and would place a toy in his mouth when he played with me. If he continued to try to bite my hands instead of the toy, I would say "too rough", " no". Then I would walk away. He would look at me like "what did I do". Now he never bites at my hands when I play with him. I could never use a water bottle on Charlie because he is terrified of squirting water. He would hide under the bed and never come out. Your Ein is still a baby - you just wait until the teenage stage! Corgis have more personality than any breed I have ever had and stubbornness is part of it - You will look back one of these days and wish he was still a puppy. Charlie has been called "devil dog" alot in his life but he will always be my angel baby.

I have already seen an improvement in his biting when I use the waterbottle. He does seem more hesitant. I feel a bit mean doing it to him, but frankly I don't like him biting me.

We are going through some of the same things with Max. I just posted a piece on our frustrations with him. He too was just neutered about a week ago and has been acting up ever since the uncomfortable part wore off. I was wondering if neutering had something to do with his new attitude. The comments I received back were both teenage behavior and possible reaction to the surgery. Others were experiencing the same thing after surgery. Max is 10 months and was doing great in all areas and then all the sudden reverted. I think he is already doing better in just the last two days. We did bring the water bottle back out, which we haven't had to use for quite some time. I also have the luxery of being home with him during the day so I have been able to focus a lot of attention, love and discipline on him. He is still quite active and in to more things than usual but I think there is hope ha. Hang in there.

The busy buddy is nice because you only need to put in a few pieces of food and it should take awhile to get at. Lance loves licking it for hours!! Although he does get lazy sometimes and has figured out if he bounces it the food will fly out!!! too funy!

Thanks for all your suggestions. I might have to get a spray bottle. He had a rawhide to chew in each section of our house. We also have a rolling kong that we use for his food. Plus a regular kong he gets when we leave the house. Then there is a kong bone that treats get stuck into-but he is rather quick at finishing those off. I might have to look at a busy buddy, I just don't want to give him too much food.

I think you may have a teenager on your hands. Six months is about when Trunks hit his teenager stage. Try some of the above suggestions. I really can't remember what I did during this time, but Pan really didn't go through this stage and Trunks grew out of it quickly. I guess it's been too long ago.

I would try getting him the Busy Buddy toy, he can take out his chewing on his toy. You can put treats in it on either end or both. The toy will redirect him to something you do want him to chew on. Hope this helps.
