We did a standard course with 21 obstacles. There were not too many changes of direction so that was nice. The first dog up did it perfectly. She would probably have placed at a trial and definitely gotten a Q.

After another dog went it was our turn. Bernie did the opening great - it even involved a teeter which she was scared of doing last week. We finished the course all at once - I stopped about twice to treat her for extra good turns and such. She wasn't too happy with the rear crosses I did but she went with it and made it work.

We did the last half of a jumpers course that had a couple of difficult spots but nothing too bad. Bernie took a jump at a great angle and did a great half of the course. I asked Maren to show me what I was doing wrong with rear crosses because I saw Bernie having to spin around a bit to change direction. My second try was good - Bernie still did a bit of a spin because she wasn't used to me doing rear crosses correctly.

She is so fast I usually have to do a few rear crosses in a course. If I try to do a front cross I can sometimes lose her attention or she'll blow right past me.

Tonight was a good night for the whole class. Bernie was a whole new dog it seemed like. I hope it continues.

You can search on the Association of Pet Dog Trainers website to find a good one!
http://www.apdt.com/default.aspx I suggest whatever school you do choose to go to, you make sure they are all about positive reinforcement. Ask for references if need be!

Thanks!! I'll definitely do that! Especially since I am so disappointed with Petsmart puppy classes.

The dog school I work at does beginner, intermediate and advanced classes. :) They have a huge field they set up with obstacles and courses to practice on. The courses change weekly.

I found them online before I got my puppy and I've been taking classes there ever since then. Now I'm starting to teach classes myself. If you are interested in finding a club to train at I suggest you either search online or go to a CPE, NADAC, USDAA or AKC trial and talk to the locals to see where they train. You can find good clubs that way.
