I knew that corgi's were the smartest dogs :D But this weekend I got to witness just how their little brains can really figure things out. We were up at my grandmother's house in Wallowa and had the dirty wet dogs shut into the laundry room until they dried off. The door on one end of this room is one of those bifold closet style doors that folds into the room. KC decided that she was tired of being locked up like a dog and wanted out....after careful consideration she figured out that if she hit one side of the doors they would fold and open, therefore letting her out. She of course was so very proud of herself for figuring this out and immediatetly had to come show us by hurtling her muddy little body onto the couch. LOL. So we put her back in the laundry room this time putting her 30" wire crate in front of the door. After awhile we here some scratching and went to investigate. KC first went into her crate and quickly realized that she could not reach the door, so she went out of the crate and did her little head tilt and then tried to move her crate out of her way. When that didn't work she jumped on top of her crate and then proceeded to push on the door in the same manner as before, it of course gave a little but with the crate preventing it from folding open wouldn't move enough for her to get her head through. This of course gave her a reason to do her little corgi noises of dismay and give us a dirty look through the slats of the door.
I certainly would not have believed this story if someone else had told it to me. It was certainly a moment when I wish I had a video camera. I am not sure if he was showing that he was smart enough not to get into trouble for getting out or just not up to her level but my aussie sat quietly at the other end of the room watching with his head tilted.
