Today I'm hanging out in the back bedroom with Matt. We had a bit of an accident last night... my husband was playing fetch in the hall with Matt for a good 15 minutes when Matt disappeared instead of getting his Squidoo. By the time we ran down the hall to catch him, it was too late!

Just need to get him feeling like these back bedrooms are part of his den so he knows not go back here. We were so busy playing he never had the opportunity to ask to go outside, so it was totally not his fault.

I had black labs growing up so I've cleaned up WAAAAY worse messes. Also, thankfully these laminate wood floors are insanely easy to clean. :)

I gated off the back bedrooms when Izzy was younger so she would not do that. She really did seem surprised sometimes about the poop until she was two. Now she is desperate to hold it for our walks like Sparty does. Half the time she can't hold it long enough to get out of the yard. Sparty only uses our yard when he really has to.

Ella is just over a year old, and will occasionally still have accidents if she is playing hard. The running/jumping/playing gets everything moving I guess. We have a connected living room/dining room/kitchen so we love to play catch in this area. And this is were any accidents happen, once she stops moving she realizes that she has to go now. Luckily it's all wood and tile floors, so clean up is easy.

Yeah he'll be 2 in October but he's only been here since Sunday so I figured we'd have a breaking in period. Luckily he is already neutered and hasn't marked anything yet.

I'm pretty sure he just didn't think of this as part of his house and had quite an urgent need to go because of all the playing. It was over in literally 15 seconds, so he obviously was all "uh oh! go time!!!" and figured he'd go in the "wild unknown" that is our unused back bedroom, ha!

Yep, when my "housebroken" pup was 8 months old, he lifted his leg and peed on the Christmas tree as if it were something he did every day, calm as could be.

Most dogs are not completely reliable (meaning they will try to hold it at all costs, even if they are sick, until they are ready to burst) til around a year.

Jaunty is six months old, and has been perfectly housebroke for three months. Last week one night, I was watching TV and Jaunty was playing with a toy. Out of the blue, he stopped playing, stood up and peed in the middle of the living room floor! I was shocked, but it reminded me that he is still a baby, and sometimes all those lessons just go flying out of his puppy brain! Oh well, we both continue to learn lessons.
