Warning, Don't let this happen to your Corgi
A couple of days ago, I heard another tragic story of a beautiful and much loved corgi losing its life due to a tragic accident. This is the fourth one I've heard of in the past five years. I'm sure there have been many more, but the parents of the corgis probably haven't been courageous or strong enough to share the guilt they feel. Without permission from the person I won't give the link out at this time but will relate the circumstances, that I'm sure all of us can relate to.
Corgis are known for their love of treats and all things food. I'm sure that all of us at some times share our snacks with them as well. Well Max, (true story from Corgi Aid's book "Everything Corgi") was no different.
In her story Max's mom (Jamie L. Longstreth) wrote...."One morning, I woke up to our kitten Greebo licking my face, pawing at me, and doing everything possible to rouse me. I noticed that Max was no longer in his customary spot at the bottom of the bed and thought he had awakened earlier and gone upstairs to sleep with one of the girls. I went upstairs and found him lying on the living room floor, suffocated, with his head in a snack bag. His love for treats had led him to search for crumbs in the bottom of a bag either left out or fished out of the trash. My world crumbled as I realized what had happened."
PLEASE, corgi lovers out there, cut all of your snack bags in half, before discarding them. This includes, grocery bags, bags that contained animal food or bird seed, or the snack bags we all have around the house. Please prevent this from happening to another beautiful corgi or any dog. Corgis, one of the BREEDS WITH SHORTER LEGS CAN'G GET THE BAGS OFF THEIR HEADS ONCE THE HEAD IS COMPLETELY INSIDE. i don't want to think of another corgi suffocating to death and the agony it experienced while trying to get its' head out of the bag.

We only just got our corgi. I told my husband about this story, and although Reggie is crated at night or when we're not home, this is something for us both to keep an eye out for. As the saying goes...an ounce of prevention...

i hadn't heard of this happening before. i have to thank you for sharing with us, even though it has left me so incredibly sad for the dogs and their owners when i think about their last moments. it makes me feel so sick to imagine this happening to any of our dogs. thank you for the warning. hopefully it will prevent this from happening ever again. *hugs*

thank u for this story - don't we all have funny stories of our little dogs and their quest for snacks - wouldn;'t it be horrific if it ended in such a tragedy. thank u so much for the heads up.

Something similar actually happened to my husbands' boss' corgi. We luckily keep Lola crated when we're not home and at night when she sleeps, but I will be keeping this in mind when she's roaming about the house.

I have heard of this happening before to a Corgi. Very sad story. I don't think we can watch our "glutton" for food Corgi dogs enough!

Terrible story...these guys are sooo food driven it's pathetic. Pumpkin as we speak is crying for the goat cheese we're eating. I'm always careful not to leave anything out for her. Sorry to hear that story.
