I went to work today and came home to find Lance not in his kennel. We always put Lance in his kennel because we are unsure what he would do when we are not home. Before i left for work, I saw Lance laying in his kennel with his head sticking out but just forgot to close the kennel door. I was in a hurry to get to work, oops!! When I got home Lance was laying on the floor in the family room right next to the kitchen. I looked around the house to make sure everything was intact. I did not find anything wrong. I immediately praised him and then gave him a treat. I was excited and in disbelief that I did that. Wow!!! I was excited because he didnt get hurt or chew anything. He will be 2 1/2 at the end of April. i just always assumed he would chew things when we werent home because he is a chewer.

Maybe we can try gating him in the kitchen area when we leave now?

Corey can undo his kennel if I do not latch the top and the bottom. That is how smart Corgi's are. I have often found him on his own when I returned home with everything o.k. I am just worried about him eating something he shouldn't.

That's very awesome! I remember when I thought I would never be able to leave my corgi out at all, but she's over a year now and I totally take that back. She's never in her crate at all and stays out all the time. And she's a HUGE chewer, but funny enough she only chews on her bones now she's gotten older. I'm glad to hear your guy was able to stay out, perhaps he will be able to all the time soon.

I have heard that corgis are very very smart! Quick to potty train and learn anything! I am keeping my fingers crossed. Just won a Furminator on eBay and am so excited! Of course, I don't get my puppy for 7 more week. Sigh...I hate waiting.

We gated our lab x chow in our kitchen and our crazy puppy chewed all along the bottoms of the cabinets! He must have laid on his back to reach it just right. What a mess that kitchen was, but we'd budgeted to replace the kitchen cabinets in the remodel thankfully!

I don't remember what age he was - but obviously too young to leave uncrated. we didn't have a crate back then. He did grow up to be a great calm dog, and only chewed up one other thing in 8 years, so I guess that wasn't too bad. It was a couch.

thats awesome! ! good job Lance, Louis has his own bedroom in the house (the smallest one), I used to be scared to let him roam around in in fearing that he would pee and poo everywhere, but turns out he knows it's his bedroom and doesn't do a thing! sometimes we come home and find him sleeping on the bed in there too.. lol.. funny dog.. I guess with no one home dogs just get bored and decide to wait for mom and dad to get home :) besides what fun is it to do bad things when no ones there to chase you

That's awesome! Gating in the kitchen, once you are sure it is entirely safe, sounds like a great idea.
