Sitting in the front seat of the car?
This may well have been visited before, but I am trying to do the right thing, by getting some opinions.
I have a Volvo wagen. In the front the seats are separate with an arm rest in the middle.
Court likes to try to sit in my lap and look out the window, or have his hind legs on the
back seat and his front paws on the arm rest, of course during turns etc, he may lose his
footing....I bought a seat beat/leash for him: it's a leash that has a seat belt insert, that you
put into the car seat belt. It's adjustable, so right now he can sit and lie down but not
move about. What are your opinions of corgi's traveling in the car? I love to have him
in my lap or up front, but...? Thanks!

excellent fotos! talk about seeing it with my own eyes! Sweet.
it is funny how most of the corgi's mentioned like to sit
with front paws on the console in front middle or such and
rear quarters on the back! so how does that work when you
turn a corner etc? Court shifts and occasionally spills to the
floor, however he gets right back up. He can see out and sometimes
rests his head on my right shoulder as I drive...it's rainy here.
Court loves a walk in the rain, and also likes to snooze and
is very quiet on days like this.

Artie never was a good traveler and would be pacing all over if he was left free so I had to figure out something with him. I went through harnesses before I found one that worked well. The first one I had was made from seat belt material and you fastened it in by putting the seat belt through the loop in the back, it was a nightmare, he would get himself all tangled up and somehow managed to get out of it no matter how tight I made it. The second one had some fleece padding but still was looped through the seat belt so in a matter of minutes he was all tangled up and miserable. Finally I found one at Target (don't bother looking, they no longer carry them, I tried to get one for the other corgi there and couldn't), it is a vest that snaps in the back in two places, has a built in leash and it buckles into the car seat belt receptacle thing. The buckle part has a swivel on it so no matter how many times he moved around he was never all tangled up. Plus with it being a vest I just felt like if we were in an accident it would distribute the force move evenly than some of those strap things.
I use the fleece thing with Abbie since she just sits there nicely but the other one was more convenient. It is just way too big for her. I did google a bit and found one very similar called the snoozer, it just doesn't have the swivel thing on the attachment.
Once I found the vest thing for Artie he started to really like going in the car, I guess he felt more secure. When I would get it out he would stand patiently while I put it on him and then go stand by the door waiting to go.

Oh, by the way, having any animal, plant or person in your lap is probably considered a safety hazard (legally) no matter where you're from (especially in the case of a citation or an actual accident).

Bear is a road dog and when not in the truck, (18 wheeler) he rides in a jeep cherokee.
He has three choices, ride in the back, (he finds his own comfort zone) or he lies on the console ( waist to head only, with his hind legs in back) or in Tams lap. Bottom line, treat your corgi like a child (with or without restraints). If your Corgi doesn't mind well, restrain him/her to keep them safe. If well behaved, your Corgi should learn to stay in one or two safe places depending on where YOU want.

Bamboo here too, of Blue! OH little Bailey!...Recently, as it's gotten warmer, Court has
been going down to the foot well Sam mentions. I hadn't thought about a roll-over. yes, animals
do have great reflexes. (I won't take a raw marrow bone away from Court again!) (actually he lets me take even a bone away from him now, but that first time he was so fast, I think he went for my neck!)(that was early on). I joined all these groups for dogs and people in Richmond, but it's only 3 months since I've gotten him, and I LOVE to sit on the couch with him and admire how amazing he is, the corgi structure and fur patterns, etc etc

i wonder what the laws are too. im in california, if anyone knows what the laws are, let me know! well i bought that seat belt/leash thing too and he rides in the front passenger seat on a towel. he whines sooooo much if i put him in a crate in the car, even if he can see me and everything. he behaves really well and doesn't try to get in my lap, probably cause hes too small now. i too have a seat configuration like you (armrest in the middle of front seats). its probably safer if i move him to the back seat with the seatbelt, cause of the airbags up front.. but?????? i only started letting bailey sit up front for about a week so im open to any suggestions!

I just got one of those as a gift and haven't tried it. I started worrying about a crash and having a flying corgi inside the car, myself. I own a pick up with a small rear seat area and don't really have room for a crate, so I thought this would help contain him in the back at least. Right now he has his back legs on the back seat and front legs on the console between the seats. Not the most stable or safe position. And I know how you feel, I'd like to have him stay where he is, but corgis flying inside the cab or through the windshield don't sound good either..... I'll let you know what I think of it after trying it for a few days. (just got it on Thurs and haven't tried it with his harness yet) Is yours made by Bamboo?
