Ellie has settled in quite well here and has started opening up more. She chases Yuki, chews the rug, tries to drag off the children's stuffed animals and lavishes us with her puppy-breath-scented kisses. I'm working on teaching her what she can and cannot chew (lots of "no", redirecting to puppy toys and the occasional yelping noise are working great) and I am also working on teaching her how to sit and to come when called. I also make sure to give Yuki lots of attention so that he doesn't feel jealous, but it's hard not to dote on the puppy. I mean, just look at this face.
We had friends over for some gaming fun yesterday, which also meant that Tucker was here. He absolutely loves Ellie and Yuki didn't mind him being around the puppy. Yuki still doesn't like to play much, but Tucker was more than willing to run around with her. They're a match made in heaven, as Tucker loves to be chased and Ellie (naturally) loves to chase and herd! They played hard for hours and, by the time Tucker left, all three dogs were completely worn out.
After seeing how long she can run around, I find myself wondering if I'm not exercising her enough. She seems happy enough and does lots of sleeping during the day, but I don't know if it's because I'm wearing her out or because she has nothing better to do. And here I thought I wouldn't worry over a puppy this time around. ;) Her frequent naps do, however, provide great opportunities to snap some pictures.
I think I'll feel much better once she hits that 13 week mark and I can take her out on proper walks. I don't dare take her out of the yard as there are lots of dogs that are walked past my house. And I can get her into a puppy class soon after her last round of puppy shots so that she can run around with other puppies her age. In the meantime, I guess I'll just have to be happy with being able to laugh at her cute little bunny butt.
