First, let me say thank you to those of you who have welcomed me so far. It's wonderful to see a networking site dedicated to the hardest working little herder around and their humans. With that said, my name is Chuck. I'm 26 and living in West-By-God Virginia. I first fell head over heels for corgis after watching Cowboy Bebop. Ein was the most adorable dog I'd ever seen and I had to know what breed that stubby legged, bunny butted genius was. After a quick search on the internet and thanks to Google, I soon discovered the breed in both incarnations. Being of Welsh stock only made them that much cuter.

As a kid, I'd always been around herding dogs, and loved their active natures and personable attitudes. For me, the corgi was just the best thing since cake was invented. I have since transfered this adoration to my wife, who gets the biggest kick out of my love of corgis. I've had opportunities to play with Pems in pet stores, though I'd NEVER buy a pup from one. They are active and loving little dogs and I knew I just had to have one. Unfortunatly, since I moved away from home I've not lived where I could have a dog.

That has changed. As of Sept. 1st, I will be moving to a home where I can finally have my Pem! And, to make things even better, I've networked with a breeder who will be having a litter the end of next month, which falls right into line with my corgi fund. I'm very excited to have my first corgi! So I thought I'd start a blog on here about the months leading up to him/her and then the first year of his/her life will be chronicled on here.

So, from you other corgi owners out there...anything I need to know about being a corgi dad? Any suggestions, insight, tips? Or just stories about your pup! Comment to your heart's content!

You are going to have so much fun with your corgi pup! Get ready for the huge amount of attention your little one will get when you two go out. Twinkie is a neigborhood celebrity.

Congratulations and welcome to the world of corgis! We live in by-God Virginia and my only wish is that I had started with corgis much earlier. We wish you lots of luck, love and good times. Yep, I started with one and have three now - my daughter (a recent Virginia Tech grad) has a corgi rescue and we have lots of corgi family friends. Bear, Tasha and Linus herd, do agility, emotional therapy and hang out in Colonial Williamsburg much to the delight of visitors. If Bear hears a young child in distress, he will go and sit on their feet until the child is laughing and petting him. Tasha is an agility fiend and Linus is the gentlest dog in the world. We wish you much happiness and look forward to seeing photographs of your new furchild and lots of stories. All the best from Nancy, Bear, Tasha and Linus

Invest in a furminator and a good vacuum as corgis blow their coats, practically year round. Be sure to take a lot of pictures, as they grow up way too fast! And corgis are like pringles, once you pop, you can't stop!

Well we are not first time corgi pets, yeah we are the pet she is boss! Our last guy was Jack & so much fun he was an old soul very relaxed. He love to try & chase jets.Barked at them like crazy. He loved storms & wanted to go out & play in the rain! We miss him.
We now have Princess Gwenie, my first girl corgi.WOW she is just the light of our lives. She is very active. She can climb on anything & I do mean anything.I have found her on the kitchen island, my desk top & a shelf. So we have to make sure chairs & stools are push in tight. I was told to play with her for 15 min & she would be tired so I could paint her nails, yeah no.An hour later I was tired & she was ready to go still!
Each corgi is different & each has his or her own personality. You will not be sorry they are the best & so loving. I would love a houseful. I wish you luck & years of fun & happiness. Can't wait to meet your new baby!

I'm so excited for you! I too learned about this adorable breed through Cowboy Bebop, but at the time we had a baby and didn't live where we could have a dog. Years later, this winter, the subject came up again and both my husband and I gave into our need for a corgi. We found an 8 month old, that a breeder "needed rid of" and Ella entered our lives. Since our son is Eric, and Ein was out since she's a girl, we went through E names and it ended up Ella.
Advice - hid your socks, paper, blankets, and pretty much anything on the floor. And love your little one!!!

How exciting..a new home and a puppy to go along with it. You won't have a dull moment. They are magical and you won't completely understand that til you've owned one and you have that special bond and connection w/him or her. I don't think I will ever live my life w/o a corgi in it again.

Thanks all! I can't wait to update everyone on my pup. Any suggestions for names? My wife likes Marlo for a girl Corgi, Marlon for a boy. Any other input?

Welcome! Puppies are wonderful. All I can offer is to hide the kitchen towels. And the toilet paper. And your shoes. LOL. You'll be amazed and a bit horrified at the myriad of things that look like "toy" in the eyes of a pup! It's a lot of work, but it's a blast and so rewarding to see your little terror mature into a model citizen.
