So, it's only about a month or less until the litter is born! We're down to crunch time, now. I'll be going to meet the Corgiparents this month, and then again up there to select what I hope to be my pup! Names have been picked. He shall be named "Yojimbo", or "Yoji" for short. I'm so nervous and excited at the same time. Lurking on this site has helped alot, but I'm still a little slow on a few things. I think I have a handle on it, though. I'm going to crate train my pup, first of all. I've heard to just use an old towel or blanket instead of a pet cushion to start with, as the pup will inevitably soil and/or eat (which appears to be the true purpose of the corgi) said cushion. I know I should snag a training book, but I don't know which. There's so many! So, once again, I ask for advice. Which training book(s) should I invest in? Also, I had the opportunity to use a Furminator on a GSD, and I freakin' love it. It saves so much time brushing his undercoat out and his topcoat looks soooooooooo much better for it. I'll be investing in one for Yoji, for sure. Pics as soon as I get some. Thanks in advance, guys and gals!

I bought a book in 1992 called "Good Owners, Great Dogs" by Brian Kilcommons and still, every time I get a puppy, I pull the book out and read it. Not only is it FULL of great training advice, but you don't feel like you're the only one with a crazy puppy. I don't know if its even published anymore, but its worth hunting for. it will always be my "puppy bible"! Good luck!

The only thing that I would suggest is getting a book on corgis...I have one that's called "Welsh Corgis: Pembroke and Cardigan" written by Richard G. Beauchamp and published by Barron's. I have found this book very helpfull and interesting as it gives everything from puppy training to history to care and many other issues. I still go to it for any questions I have and have sent some along for new puppy owners! I know you can look up alot on the internet but it's also nice to have the book right there. Also puppy classes and basic training classes help if you can find some nearby( I have to travel 60 mi.for my AKC classes)...I do these with my young dogs since I have so many it gives us some special 1 on 1 Good luck...it will be so fun!

Hahaha "...and/or eat (which appears to be the true purpose of the corgi)...". So true! How exciting...cute name! I don't really know of any good training books. I actually got a lot of good tips, tricks and advice from searching MyCorgi forums and blogs...I don't know what I would have done without this site! Good luck with little Yoji!
