What age do corgi's get their adult coats?

I heard corgi's shead alot so be prepared for hair everywhere. Is there anything you can do to cut down on the sheading?

Hi Shelly,

Adult coats should be fully filled in by the age of 2.

Yes, good nutrition, weekly furmination / brushing, stress free, not over bathing helps.

Peggy: yes i do, usually on my eyelashes so i have to be careful becuase sometimes they then get in my eyes, and my corgi's very rarley sleep in the bedrooms as well, they are nextdoor in there own room (the den/office). As for the coffee not a cup can be drunk with out fur, doesnt help Adora loves coffee and stick her nose over the cup waiting for us to say she can....which never happens, but she has to try when ever she can right.

I hear ya barkin John!! We're still getting fresh snow here in the rockies - I wonder why he is shedding at all!!

I'm leaving the loose hair in the corners of the rooms for added insulation.

Dark-colored fleece clothing is also handy to wear to keep the fuzz off the floor.

Kimberlie: do you also wake up in the morning with at least one corgi strand on you face (in your mouth)? There's always one floating on top of my coffee (or sticking to the cup's lid)

I've never tried a furminator except in the store.  I fear it might remove too much healthy fur:  Seattle, Washington Cascades, cold & wet.   We're slobs.  We never vacuum, comb the dogs maybe once a month with a coarse steel Afro-type comb, and y'know what?  The fur isn't that much of a problem.  If you're a slob like me.

But maybe you should ask our houseguests ("Does our house smell doggy...?").

Always sit on the floor and wear spandex lycra and a wool sweater when you comb the dogs; that way all the loose fur sticks to your clothes and stays off the floor.

Mine 2 where born in Oct 09 and this spring was the first it got to OMG fur every where!  To the point it was just floating in the air if you so much as moved. Its sad when you open up a nice little tub of icecream and take a scoop and by the time it hits your mouth there is a fur on it. Or when you find one of their white hairs in your hair, scare me (me thinking WHY DO IS SEE A WHITE HAIR IM ONLY 23!) But it was just corgi fur. I found a good trip to the groomers with FUrminator treatment really helps, then regular bi-weekly (at home) - wash, blow dry with regular brush then blow dry to get out anyloose fur from brushing to get off, Untill the shedding dies down. BIG tip brush outside! Saves alot of cleanup. And the birds will thank you to.

In the Spring, we don't even bother to ever put the vacuum clearner back in the closet!  We have to sweep up every day there is so much shedding of the Winter coat.

you'll start to see the "adult coat" start to come in at about 5 mos - about the same time as teething. If I remember correctly.

I just found a comb just like a Furminator but half the price - at Walmart.

Back in the "olden days" we just used a slicker brush every couple days...

Brushing outside, if you can, is best. Then the birdies get some nesting material :) share the wealth!

Furminators are great but do not overuse and take out too much hair. Regular brushing works well most of the time. I brush mine outside and the fur really flies!

It's not so much about their adult coats as even as pups Corgis have different coats. I have some that have a heavier undercoat than others and also their outer layers differ but not as much.

Frequent brushing and a deshedding tool (like the Furminator that Kasey reccommended) will help to cut down on the fur flying everywhere.  ;)  My Eskimo Dog has a thick undercoat and would shed everywhere, but I brush him every 1-2 days and it help a lot.

One word...furminator. It will be your best friend when it comes to shedding.
