Every year we battle pollen allergies. Barney has already gone thur one treatment with simplef and methapretizone for his allergy issues within the last week, Once those pills were done he was clearing up and feeling better but , as usual, 2 days later the allergy symptoms come back, In the past we just refilled his script and went with another 2 weeks hoping his itching would stop...I have read that there are allergy shots that a vet can give...My question is the shot a better and faster option? How often do they have to get the shot, weekly? or just one and your done?

Thank you, Im actually waiting for a call back from the vet :) what they would recommend. I didnt know if the shot would be a 'quick fix', Barney gets allergies about 2 months out of the year and we are on the final month which is forever in the making seeing how miserable he is.

Ronda, the allergy shot is after an allergy test is done. They develop a serum that contains low doses of the allergens. We then give Sparty a shot once a month. It is just under the skin and quite simple and it is not necessary to go to the vet. We determined that for our highly allergic dog it would be easier on his body to do that. This is the same as they do for humans. You should discuss this with your vet and if they do not do it maybe they can refer you. We were told that it works with about 80% of dogs. Fortunately it worked for Sparty and it has been about 8 years now and he is well. Good luck, if you have more questions I will be happy to help.
