L>R: Summit Chief, Chimney Rock, Overcoat Peak. These are the highest peaks in the Snoqualmie Pass area of Washington's central Cascades. We're on a little peak called Otter Point, 6360':
This is earlier on Day 2, a simliar-sized peak called Iron Cap:
We slept right on the summit benchmark:
9:05 PM, the roiling mists materialized, and they did this to the sunset -- what you can't see is the halo rapidly expanding and contracting as the mists blow by, and the sun is just about to hit the mountain skyline -- even Al seems to like it, as if it were edible or something:
The darkest hour is always just before the breakfast:
Edit 3/24/15: I posted the above photo on corgiaddict.com 2 months ago, and so far it's gotten 60,500 comments, likes, & reblogs. I'm thrilled and touched that this little creature can speak to so many people just by being here.
Foss Lakes High Route, Alpine Lakes, central Washington Cascades. 3rd time I've done this, just me & Al, but never before on snow. 3 days, 2 summits, mostly on snow. Al loved it; he frapped on the first snow we reached. It was a joy to see him romping in perfect snow travel conditions, 2" of mush-on-crust, much faster and easier than trudging over rocks and boulders. People will be talking about the stupendous snowpack of summer 2011 in hushed, awe-stricken tones for many years. We camped on snow at 5500', and bivouacked at 6360' on our second summit, no tent necessary that night with the corgi electric blanket.
Tried out a new freeze-dried dog food, "Vital Essentials" 100% Raw. Al loved it, but it did make him fart... and he was in my sleeping bag, remember.
One of the best trips I've ever enjoyed:
