...and so are mothers. My husband and I stopped at the fabric store as I had some projects in mind. My mom then came over, bringing a sewing machine, my sister, & their dog, Capri. And this is what we made!
I bought some fleece type fabric of 2 sorts (one I have not used yet and will be for a future bed) and a large pillow form that was 50% off. I then decided I wanted 2 textures and got a faux fur sort of fabric, that matched Pooka's colors so her hair wouldn't show up!
Pooka looved the pillow form, which was a good sign. And then me and my mom got to work, while my sister distracted my husband, and Capri distracted Pooka. Unfortunately, that did not mean they were out of our way:
It took a lot longer than it needed to because I decided I wanted the stripes diagonal on the top, and I had only bought a yard... not really planning ahead. We also were going with no pattern, so by the end of it, the top piece of fabric was about 6 inches wider than the bottom. But we made it work! (mostly my mom, the moment I get on the sewing machine, something always goes wrong; this time it was the tension)
I also bought some remnants, so I made 2 double-sided dog bandanas (with velcro!) and this was my project. Unfortunately, Pooka peed on one of the remnants (luckily just off the rug) and I had to wash it first. I was kind've upset, she peed twice in the house while they were over, and pooed once. She NEVER does this. I guess we were distracted but... we ended up constantly taking her out and she pooed 4 times outside, when normally she only goes twice!
I don't know if it was all the extra stress and activity, or if... she's about to go into heat? There's a neighborhood un-neutered chihauaha (whom she's always loved) and the owners just let him run around for about 10 minutes a day. He happened to be out and she was pouncing all over him and he started sniffin her hooch and likkin it and his weewee started coming out. I said "None of that!" and we walked away. He didn't follow us, but he'd never done that before. She's not swollen down there or bloody at all. Just this frequent urination. She'll be 6 months on Apr 4th.
My plan is to get her spade ASAP.
