Its been a while since I've been on here, but Pooka just turned 2 yesterday so I thought I'd write a quick update!
This year was not as fun as far as presents go for Pooka on her birthday. I got her a crate pad and a big knee bone, but she got them almost a month early cuz I can't help it! So I let her eat a whole beef frank on her actual birthday =) I heated it up and we let her have it and first she ran off with it, then looked at us…

Pooka is 1 year, 4 months and has started barking in a bad way. She has also become more territorial and liable to pick fights with the anti-social husky that lives with us [
discussed here].
Barking:we have had to close all our blinds because if not, she just stares outside and waits for any broach on her territory and barks like mad. The more you yell, the more she barks. She…

Our housemate has a husky who is kind've feral, I guess, and she has attacked Pooka over 5 times since he started living with us in August. She has 3 small scars on her face and they are taking very long to heal.
He is whipped by his dog and seems to like that she is kind've wild and pushes him around (woofs until he take her on a walk) Most of the time she is sleeping and being anti-social. She's pretty much like a cat. If you mess surprise her when she is sleeping she is likely to…

I sure am lucky.
One of my favorite things about Pooka is her breath. It still smells like when she was a puppy! A little hint of chlorine (I think). She rarely has bad breath (only after chewin' on something stinky) I hope we can keep this up past a year and a half!
Two things she did recently that were so perfect!
We were at my friend's house with two other dogs so she was being protective of a rolled-rawhide bone the whole weekend. I was playing…

I can't believe it, a corgi here in San Antonio, Ein has his first birthday today, and so does Gemima up in Rochester. I looked, they're not from Pooka's litter. My mom's dauchshund's birthday is also Oct 4th. There must be a conspiracy amongst dog breeders to either simply REPORT the birthday as the 4th, or to breed them all on the exact same day!…

My husband let me spend some money recently on fun items, and when I ended up looking at my choices, 5 out of the 6 things were corgi related ;P So I wanted to share some of the cute things I found in case anyone else is interested!
I ordered a bunch of straps, etc from
strapworks.com so I could make some harnesses for Pooka.
They also make custom collars:
I also got a…

This is a bit late (she got her stitches out 4 days ago), but I wanted to share Pooka's story of getting spayed. Just wanted to give a real good detailed account for those about to go through the same thing cuz I still felt I didn't know what to expect.
I had bought Pooka one of those inflatable collars off ebay. Her neck was 13" around. The medium said 10"-13" and the large was 13"-whatever inches and you should always go with the bigger one, and we also figured we could use it as…

Before we went to the beach, on a whim I decided I wanted to paint Pooka's toenails. Of course, I did it all wrong (the computer was occupied, so no internet background search).
I chose a turquoise I had (
ORLY 'Green with Envy') and just tried to make her stay while I did each one, trying to hold them apart while they dried, giving her treats. Well it got all over her fur (and her leash, and me). I tried to use the…

I've been wanting so bad to get Pooka to the beach, and was hoping to do it before she turned 6 months so she would adjust to it easier. Turns out we got down there the day after her 6 month mark, and I had nothing to worry about. For you see,
Pooka is a beach dog.
I am a beach girl, so I am very pleased. One of my favorite activities is digging holes in the sand at the beach, and ever since Pooka got…

So this past Sunday we went to the beach. The Sunday before THAT we went to the dog park (my youngest sister and I). So that's how far behind I am.
Kim had sent out a message saying she'd be there if anyone wanted to show. We were a little late so we got there right as they were leaving, but she stuck around a bit because no one can resist a corgi puppy in a new bandana! Hopefully we can have a meet-up at her house as she so kindly offered. Pooka…

Since Pooka has been re-allowed in the backyard, she'll stop all the time (in the middle of fetching) to eat grass and it upsets me, cuz... if it was the pesticide that caused the swelling, eating it is DEFINITELY worse than just sniffing it. But, she hasn't had a single reaction, so I guess the rain washed it all away into the soil, or the grass is just growing so fast, and its so tasty, she wants to eat it. (the only reason I've heard for eating grass is if they need to vomit? what are some…

...and so are mothers. My husband and I stopped at the fabric store as I had some projects in mind. My mom then came over, bringing a sewing machine, my sister, & their dog, Capri. And this is what we made!
I bought some fleece type fabric of 2 sorts (one I have not used yet and will be for a future bed) and a large pillow form that was 50% off. I then decided I wanted 2 textures and got a faux fur sort of fabric, that matched Pooka's…

Here's Pooka last night at around 1AM (she looks miserable cuz I just woke her up and she's REALLY drowsy). It has moved to the other side of her face.
I gave her another half of a Benadryl and put her in her crate for the night.
At around 4AM, I woke up to continue studying for my test. She looked about the same, and though I opened the crate, she stayed in there (even after I left for school at 8:45). BUT! by 6AM, when I checked on…

=( =( =(
its been 2.5 hours since I last saw her.
I gave her the other half of the Benadryl. She still acts fine. I have a big test tomorrow I have to study for.
My friend says I worry too much and that dogs have lived for 100s of years without people. [sigh]
UPDATE: Its about 4 hours later and she looks back to normal…

I have all these blog posts I want to write, about her fish pillow, and how I sprayed the yard for fleas/ants and had to take her to my mom's house, but now I have to write about this.
Pooka woke up this morning with a swollen eye, and I felt around and her cheek was swollen too. I checked her teeth for an infection and saw nothing. I gave her half a benadryl, she was fine, she ate all her food, and I asked my husband to stay home with her. He…

So I was reading about how antler chews are a good alternative to meaty bones on the forum, or somewhere, and was just like, hmm, sounds good to me. My dad is a hunter and has been all my life. Most of my friends dad's are hunters. So when I bring this up to them, they're just like "huh, makes sense, I'll give one to my dog".
Cuz the truth of the matter is, there is no shortage of antlers where I come from. White-tail hunting is very common…

I noticed Pooka's toys were coming apart at the stitching (especially since she loves to grab an easy to chomp leg during tug-of-war) and the stuffin was sticking out. Appreciative after seeing so many images of dogs surrounded by the guts of their victims, that Pooka didn't enjoy pulling out stuffing, I decided to try to fend off the habit as long as possible. So, it was time for
Stuffed Animal SURGERY!
I grabbed my sewing kit and…

It's so great when I've been trying to teach Pooka a trick for a few days and then suddenly, she's doing it without me asking (usually cuz I'm asking her to
Roll Over and she hates that), and actually responding to the words without the hand motion.
Most recently its been "
Do-Si-Do" which means
spin around. My first experience with training dogs was on the Nintendo DS, playing Nintendogs, with my TriColor corgi pup named Pumkin, my shiba inu named Gypsy, and my…
