Before we went to the beach, on a whim I decided I wanted to paint Pooka's toenails. Of course, I did it all wrong (the computer was occupied, so no internet background search).
I chose a turquoise I had (
ORLY 'Green with Envy') and just tried to make her stay while I did each one, trying to hold them apart while they dried, giving her treats. Well it got all over her fur (and her leash, and me). I tried to use the drying spray so she wouldn't have to stay as long, but that freaked her out immensely. haha.
After I did them and got on the internet, turns out you ain't supposed to use human nailpolish (though the reasons seem... unscientific) The one testimony that mostly worried me was from a Veterinary assistant who said she'd seen lots of dogs come in with lung poisoning from people painting their dog's nails and the dogs getting a good whiff. So even if they don't know the reason, I watched Pooka all day and probably won't do it again. There is puppy nail polish, and one person said it is basically like hobby model enamel. Just doesn't have formaldehyde. Also, don't use acetone, which also has formaldehyde
Also turns out, you're supposed to do it just down the middle of the nail, not even try with the sides (oops!) and that helps with not getting it on the fur.
Afterwards I did mine!
The next day we went to the beach and after a few minutes of running in the sand, it was aaaalll gone
