Saturday, I went for a hike with my roommate and Waffle.  The trail was super easy--flat, just long (4.5 miles).  We've done it soooo many times before!  We ended up having to cross a small stream which required Waffle climb a 2.5 ft dirt wall. I think that was our mistake.  He hauled himself up there using his upper body and everything seemed fine until we got home.  He spent the rest of the night in his crate voluntarily.  Sunday, thinking he was just tired, we went to our agility lesson.  He didn't refuse any obstacles but he moved sooo slooow.  He was kind of listless the rest of the day.  He did get a burst of energy in the evening and went nuts chasing the cat, though!  Then, the next morning, he was even more drained than before.  I made a vet appointment and took him in to eliminate the possibility that it could be something other than a back/neck/mucle injury and starting treating him like he had one--crate rest, anti-inflammatory pills, being carried up/down stairs.

The vet couldn't get him to react to anything she did, although he was a little resistant to having his neck forced in different directions.  We also found out he has a luxating patella!  He didn't used to have one.  Apparently they can happen from a "traumatic injury".  I wonder what happened, and when, to cause his knee to dislocate.  I did notice that for the past few weeks, I have felt something popping when he sits on me in the car.  Well, that explains that.  It's not painful, just annoying and weird, though he'll probably have some bad arthritis in that knee later. :[

Anyways, she sent me home and told me to keep doing what I started doing.  He's already doing better but he needs to be strictly confined until at least Sunday, then exercise restriction after that.

Waffle feel better soon, hate to hear your hurt.  :(   I'm sure with lots of rest you will be feeling better in no time, and you have a great owner to help you feel better.  :)
