Tucker broke a front claw. It isn't bleeding but I can see the red interior. It isn't broken completely off. should I clip off the part that is still there? Take him to the vet?
I've never had this happen.

Copper runs hard when chasing the ball and tears his nails often. At first we'd take him to the vet, now we just trim, disinfect and let it heal
Thanks-I washed his paw with an antibacterial soap that the vet game me when Butler was licking his paws a lot. It doesn't seem to be bothering him, but we'll keep an eye on it.
It depends on if its bothering him or not. If he is leaving it alone then don't do anything and let it grow out but if its bothering him then you might want to take him to the vet. The vet will apply a local anesthetic and rip the toenail off so that it can grow back correctly. Sometimes these can heal fine on their own with no vet intervention but sometimes the dog will lick it nonstop and can cause an infection.
Actually a home remedy if it's still bleeding would be to stick his paw in a bit of flour. If you can clip it that would be great unless it's real short. I used to have the shaving stick but my dogs thought it was good to chew:(
Do you have any Quick Stop at home? Its the powdery stuff that stops bleeding if you nick the quick of the toe nail when you are trimming them. If the break is just at the tip of the quick you could probably just trim it off and then put some quick stop on it. If the break is further up the nail, I would err on the side of caution and take him to the vet. It could be painful and it could bleed alot. They may need to cauterize it somehow. Good luck!
