Hello, all - I haven't posted in awhile. Zoe is fine. Her first birthday is this Friday! Can't believe she will be one whole year old already..time flies. I have a question about chewing. She chews and shreds almost EVERYTHING, especially if she's not supposed to. Since she is one, I'm sure all her teeth have come in. She does it mostly when we are not home, so separation anxiety is definitely in the picture also. I am looking for anything that will help me with this. It's driving me crazy! We cannot leave one thing on the floor or she will chew/shred it. She loves toilet paper, BTW!!!!

HELP :)

LOL..yes, they do!!! We do crate her when we are gone for several hours at a time. I work at home doing medical transcription and do give her free reign of the house while I am at home. Perhaps I should crate her more often, even when I am home at times, but she sleeps in her crate at night, too. Thank you for the advice...it's much appreciated.

What I did for mine, was keep her enclosed in an area with baby gates( the kitchen, mostly). I make sure that there was nothing harmful on the floor. And always left her with some toys and a rawhide treat. It was several months after her first year, that I dared to let her in my bedroom when I was away. If I left a paper or something in the floor she will rip it. So I make sure that I keep everything out of her way. She doesn't chew on the bed or any cables anymore. When she was a puppy Shshe used to (ah memories!). I usually leave them some internet radio station on (mostly with new age music or bird, nature sounds). This way she doesn't feel that lonely. As they keep growing they get used to us leaving them, they will play with their toys, but will go to sleep until we come back.

But, it depend on us to make sure there is nothing that they can have easy access. I think enclosing her in the kitchen or the bathroom will be ok for now (put the toilet paper away LOL, and the towels!), leave her some toys. Be patient, in a couple of more months Zoe will be a complete star! Good luck!

She is really not old enough to have free rein in the house yet. Think of leaving a 2 or 3 year old child with the body of a teenager alone in the house. She doesn't have the impulse control yet to be trusted. Try confining her in a dog proof area or crate with a kong stuffed with Peanut butter or cheese. It will give her something to do and help her learn to be calm when you are not home. They do help you become better at picking up the house when they are young don't they??
