I am worried because Boba seems to be losing the nice glossy black overcoat. He is only 6 months old and he looks all kinds of scraggly. the loss of the black has almost made him look like a brindle minus the sheen. I read online that some puppies can end up going black to sable as they grow but at six months I am pretty sure he should be out of his puppy fur shedding stage. He gets plenty of exercise lots of affection and is fed appropriately. He is never stressed and always happy. I think I am going to take him to the vet next week

I do the monthly worm pills and powder
I think that with puppies it's good practice to run a stool check sometime around six months. It's cheap and worms can affect growth, coat and general thriving, even behavior.
Do the fish oil..it will help his coat both in texture/sheen and it should help with some of the shedding. I give it to mine and it does help with the normal shedding..at least till it's prime shedding season.
He probably won't have his full adult coat until closer to a year old, so it might just be shedding some of his puppy coat. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're actually seeing bald patches.
Giving him fish oil in his feed will help his coat, I give it to Abbey
Ok. Its just weird I never had dogs that changed so drastically before I've only had a chow/mudi mix two lab mixes a golden retriever and a Rottweiler, All of their coats always pristine.
When the tri color's shed they look very ratty. He could lose some black even up to one year but he may just be blowing his coat and it is not when tri's look their best. Just comb a lot.
