Owen had his first encounter with an agressive dog at the dog park yesterday. It was so scary. She was another puppy (boxer?) and had been bossy with other dogs (barking until a great dane puppy laid down) but nothing that would give me the idea I should take my dog out. Owen was digging in the dirt and all of a sudden she came running full speed at him much to everyone's shock and wrestled him to the ground and was pretty much on top of him roughing him up. She was growling and being mean. I didn't really know what to do. I didn't want either Owen or myself to get bit (although I am the one with health insurance). Her owner bolted over and yanked her off. Owen ran between my legs and the husky he had been sniffing around came back and kind of shielded him until he calmed down. He was okay but a little shaken. I stuck around only because I didn't want that to be the last memory of the dog park. The owners were very upset and apologetic. Owen warmed up and got back out there and the other dog was fine the rest of the time. I don't know what got into her. Owen doesn't really look like a bunny anymore so couldn't have been that. Owen ran around and herded the children that were in there :-\ a note to parents bringing their children into the dog park- if the dogs run into your kids.. it is your kid's fault. A note to other dog owners- if you bring treats in your pocket, the 7 month old great dane will find them and slime your sweatshirt (but not before sliming your dog).

Owen has been funny lately with the Christmas tree and all the house changes. He barked at the tree and the box the tree is stored in. That was "entertaining." He spends way more time in the kitchen now and if he is in the living room he is with me at my feet or sleeping under the chair. O was exhausted after Thanksgiving - playing with my brother and family.

We can't wait for Christmas! And the Calendar winners!

It scares me too. I worry about taking him to petsmart. I don't put him down till we get in the ring. I know the pups all have their shots.

I think dog parks would be great for me to take my dogs and work w/them since there are distractions there and it would take their training to another level but what you experienced is one reason I'm not sure of them. There are a lot of people that don't have control over their dogs and I'm not sure it is worth it. My other precaution is sanitation in the park and other dogs. I know you can get this just from walking down the street or taking your dog into a pet store but it is a cause of concern. One of my concerns is Brucellorosis or Giardia, stuff like that. Even kennel cough or parvo. You just never know. Call me over protective but I am when it comes to that stuff. I take every precaution w/my dogs.
