I'm not sure if Owen made it through okay or if he will ever look at the vet sweetly again. On Monday, I drove in the snow to get Owen fixed, vaccinated (rabies), and have his front dew claws removed. All in all, I'm pretty sure this was equally tragic for all of us involved. I picked up poor Owen that afternoon, paws bandaged and drove home. He cried until he got to my lap and I cried too.. we are babies. He rested alot and that night whined and whined. Matt had to sleep in the hallway part of the night.
Tuesday was okay accept that it has been so cold and our floor is uninsulated that Owen was shivering and that made me cry. So we brought him into bed. And he whined and cried still! Finally he decided he would be okay if he had his head on matt's pillow and we were on the edge of the bed. So like a dog.
Wednesday morning we needed to change the bandages. Well we all know how much corgi's LOVE their paws touched. Owen went mean dog nuts every time we tried. So back to the vet we went to have them changed and a quick class on safe muzzling techniques. He is such a drama queen.
Thursday we got dumped on with snow. Owen was thrilled out of his mind but we couldn't go out that much because of the stiches.
Friday.. bandages came off.. more drama. It is really hard to see your dog act that way when you know he is a sweetheart. Also the noises that animal can make! YIKES! Last night I just had to hold him and shut my eyes while Matt worked quickly. Everything looks like it is healing well. We went for little walks today around the block and Owen is loving running through the snow. He hasn't loved pooping in it though. A little chilly around his bits and all.
So I think we are going to make it. Next time, finding a breeder that takes off dew claws. I can handle a neuter or spay again but not the claws.
And it is still snowing like crazy.... I love it!
