We adopted a cat today. I have wanted a kitty for awhile. His name is Griffin and pretty cool cat. Owen is not thrilled mostly because the cat isn't thrilled with him yet. Owen has had cat experience and gets along well with my parents cats for extended times.
Hopefully they become friends. New house, new friend, too much? I hope not.

I met a woman, her daughter and their 3 month old australian shepherd mix at the park today. The dog came up to me and I asked to pet it mostly because Owen has been at my parents house since we moved because we are still in temporary housing. So other peoples dogs are amazing. Good thing I run right by the dog park!
Anyway she had that look of overwhelmedness as I walked by and we just chatted for a bit and I worked a bit with her dog. Gave advice, etc. She was so thankful. I tried…

If you are unable to walk or train or exercise your herd dog... please don't get one. Please don't yell at your beautiful border collies who have been at your mercy since they were pups. They only want to do a job and because you have not given them one, today it is play with the red head's corgi. Do not ruin everyone else's time at the park by screaming at your dog constantly because it won't come to you. Perhaps this was the wrong dog for you. Next time get a small toy breed :(

So Owen and I took a trip to the Ft. Steilacoom dog park today.. which is huge. Last time we were there we had a great time and even met some other corgis. All and all had a good time. This time we ran into this awful woman who introduced herself as a trainer as Owen was playing with her awful poodle and awful chihuahua. Well Owen celebrated his first birthday about a month ago. We did hats and the whole shabang.. Owen has gotten so big and I have to admit I do miss the puppy in him. I can tell he wants to be a big boy and be tough.

Not the first entry back you want when you have taken a bit of a break.
I came home for lunch today and Owen had thrown up on his bed and almost all the evidence had been eaten, yuck. I'm think okay.. that is a little unusually but not uncommon. He took forever to pee outside and then poo was normal then runny. Worried a little. Put the bed in the washer.

I'm not sure if Owen made it through okay or if he will ever look at the vet sweetly again. On Monday, I drove in the snow to get Owen fixed, vaccinated (rabies), and have his front dew claws removed. All in all, I'm pretty sure this was equally tragic for all of us involved. Owen had his first encounter with an agressive dog at the dog park yesterday. It was so scary. She was another puppy (boxer?) and had been bossy with other dogs (barking until a great dane puppy laid down) but nothing that would give me the idea I should take my dog out. This morning I woke up way early to a weird smell. I woke up my husband when I realized it was natural gas and we do have a gas furnace! After we decided I wasn't paranoid (1 min) we opened some windows and got all of us out. Owen was really confused that we were all out for the morning potty- with his kennel. Well it has been an interesting few day. Owen has been a bit bummed by my lack of energy as I battle a cold. I'm guessing he doesn't understand why I get to "bark" and he is told to be quiet. At least he isn't barking at me when I cough now. That was not going to work out. I'm a pretty boring person right now.. Yesterday we went to the dog park and Owen had a good day. We gave him a bath (even though we was wet from the creek) and found 3 or 4 flees that abandoned ship with the water. Yar.. we have been flee free so far and I'm really sure when it hapened but I was good and told my mom just in case Rusty the cat has them (very very allergic). Matt and I took a bit of a mini break this week and we are still on it but since we are home and have some fun stories already.. I thought I would share! Owen had his first time away from us this last weekend. Matt and I went to Portland for the night and Owen stayed with my parents and their cat, Rusty. Yesterday was one of those busy days at the church for Matt and myself. We were getting ready for a generational event that Shaun Alexander was speaking at and that was hugely successful. However we were gone most of the day back and forth to let Owen out and check on him. At one point I came home, let him out and went to the Y for a quick work out. I am a very proud mama these days. I'm just very impressed with Owen and other dogs. He plays- he loves to play and always comes back a better dog! We went to the dog park today (we learned he only had to be 4 months!) and he was by himself and we played fetch for a bit. Then these awful little dogs.. Owen has been weird this week. It is a week that has made me very thankful for this website! He turned 4 months on Sunday. He lost a few teeth recently (hilarious- two front teeth on the top AND the bottom) so he looks a little funny. Our schedules have been weird but twice he put himself to bed at the end of the night. Well we just got back from our family vacation in time for the Puyallup Fair. We live uncomfortably close to the fairgrounds so we haven't had a proper walk today because the town is now full of crazies and that isn't good to walk around in with scary drivers and weird people. Owen and I went to the park today. I think secretly he hoped to see his corgi friends again.
