Oppy absolutely loves his soft toys, but he also loves to destroy them. We just bought him a toy duck from Petco and he's already ripped the foot off and the beak open. His longest lasting toy was actually a stuffed penguin from a local carnival that wasn't even a dog toy. But alas, he killed that too. Does anyone have any suggestions for some really tough plush toys that he won't be able to tear apart within the first couple of days?

I have seen the toys (plush) with not stuffing also and wondered how they worked...canvas toys aren't as soft but hold up well. Wynn was always good and never chewed his stuffed animals but he's the only one that cuddled with them! I have seen some with sheepskin type material and those are a little longer lasting...I have bought rummage sale toys but I watch for the ones with stitched eyes so they can't swallow plastic! Som,eone could makes lots of $$$$ if they could invent this toy!!!

If we bought Gwynnie a plush toy with a squeakie inside and embedded it in a bucket of reinforced concrete, she'd still disembowel the toy and get the squeakie within 10 minutes.

Oh geez... Up until 2 years of age mine would tear anything apart in less than a day. Now he will actually play or cuddle with a soft toy up until I refuse to play with him when he wants me to and chooses to become destructive and tears it apart lol.

Ein's had this plush toy since he was 3 months old and it's still in like new condition.

That little squirrel is a survivor from Ein's teething stage! Ein's now 20 months old and he still plays with it. :)

Sparty loves to destroy the toys but I don't think Izzy ever would. Kong makes a series called AirKong and Airdog that are a material similar to tennis balls but they are very tough. Some of them squeak and Sparty & Misty love them. Even the doberman can't tear them up. Izzy doesn't care for them but she is very mild and doesn't play rough at all. We buy occasionally very cheap stuffed toys for Sparty to tear up but they only last a couple minutes. Izzy then will play with the "skin".

my lab shuffles main goal in life was to kill toys!!! after a few years I quit buying plush dog toys way to expensive!!!
I would hit up yard sales during the summer, the good will in the winter. it's a good way to get cheap stuffed animals. oh and after holiday stuffed animals at stores also (ie valentine animals i got after the holiday for .99 before the holiday they were 4.99 it's easy to STOCK UP) just watch out for the bean filled ones =)

I've heard they you shouldn't give dogs stuffed animals because if they eat the stuffing they can choke on it. For soft stuff, Ella has a fleece blanket that she loves and will chew on that.
If your dog really loves the feel of stuffed toys, but tears them up, maybe you could buy some "stuffed animal" fur material from a craft store. That way Oppy can chew on it all he wants.
On Petsmarts website the other day I saw a "stuffing free" squirrel made by Kong. I have never owned one, but it looks tough. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3207086&lmdn=Product+Type

My Yuki is the same way. I had a stuffed TY pig that I gave her because I didn't want it anymore and it's lasted over a year. She chewed the eyes and tail off but I just sewed the holes closed and its fine. We play tug of war and she chews on it every night but it’s held up really well. TY are more expensive stuffed animals though. I also look at yard sales for sturdier built stuffed animals that aren’t very expensive. I hope you can find something that lasts!
