Well everything was all set for us to get Isabella on March 14th. She is 8 months old and was scheduled to get spayed today before coming home to us.

We were so excited. We have been corresponding with the breeder since December and talking with her about Isabella for over a month. The breeder let us know that she was a bit shy - she was also a bit small for her age - the two reasons why she was not going to be a show pup. When we met her she really came our of her shell. She had a blast playing fetch with us and warmed up to the point that she was climbing on our laps and kissing us up. I had gotten updates from the breeder that since we left she has become very attached to the ball we played fetch with and has been more outgoing. I was thrilled to hear that and felt like we made a real connection with her.

Today I got an email from the breeder that she has reconsidered placing her. Isabella has been more confident these past couple of weeks and also the breeder said that she got a bath last night and looked absolutely beautiful. Therefore she is now thinking about showing her after all.

I am so sad today - I cried when I read her email. I know she would have been a perfect fit in out home. We spent the weekend getting ready for Isabella - and bought EVERYTHING we needed for her - even her tags :( Now I have no pup on the way but a crate, bed, tons of toys, treats, a furminator, dremel, etc etc.

I just wanted to share my experience. I am sure I will find another pup and fall in love all over again but right now it doesn't feel like it. I don't know that a 7-10 week old puppy will work for us - we are prepared to give the exercise and attention a dog needs but not sure how we'd accommodate almost hourly potty breaks that come with a younger pup. The breeder did apologize and say she would try to help me find another corgi. I just wish this was decided earlier in the process - she was scheduled to come home in less than 2 weeks.

If anyone knows of someone with an older pup available in the greater Philadelphia area (or within driving distance) please let me know. Thanks. I have gotten so much information and inspiration from this site - it has just confirmed that a Corgi is the right breed for me. I appreciate everything!

I got our corgi from a breeder about an hour outside Philadelphia. Maybe she'll be able to help you find one in the area. You can contact them at www.ezbrook.com. Good luck.

I'm sure things will work out for the best but I know I would be very angry at the person. They should have said that they wanted a few more weeks before making a final decision if there was a possibility that they would change their mind.

Thanks Patti :) Luna is so beautiful- I love your pictures of her and Kai Superdog. You have two amazing dogs!

The breeder sent me information for a friend of hers that may have a returned puppy about the same age available. I will keep an open mind and find out more.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Last year I was looking for my first house and I had a few big disappointments along the way but i ended up in the perfect home for me. Hopefully it will work out the same with a corgi and I will end up with the perfect pup for me.

I am not angry with the breeder - just frustrated with the situation. I understand that she doesn't want to give her up - she is a doll!

When we were waiting for our new corgi, our normal breeder had no litters planned, but recommended another. We contacted that breeder and told her we wanted another b/w cardigan. she had two that were not show prospects, we went and visited and found one that everyone thought would be perfect for us. We were told to wait till it was old enough to leave and come live with us. We were so anxious - like u. A week before due date, the breeder called and told us that she had placed that pup with someone else. To say I was beside myself is an understatement. I voiced my displeasure, the second breeder told me she had already contacted another breeder to find me a new pup, and I called my original breeder who did the same. Both breeders came up with Luna's breeder. We went to look at the b/w puppies the 3rd breeder had, and I was being cautious and judging for temperament, when my daughter appeared with a little blue merle female with a black ring around one eye. Our hearts were stolen at that very moment. We talked with the breeder about temperament, made sure it matched and waited till Luna was age appropriate. She came home and has been a joy in this household. I am sure that the right dog will come in the right time!

That is awful. That's how I felt when I thought we were going to end up not getting one from the litter we had been waiting months for. Luckily, things worked out in our favor and we got our Finn and I'm sure you'll find the pup that was meant for you too. I don't think the breeder meant to hurt you, but I do think that once the breeder committed to sending the puppy home with you, they should have followed through even if they were having second thoughts. Good luck in your search. Maybe the breeder will have a change of heart and you 'll get your Isabella after all. :)

Well that just stinks. I can imagine how disappointed you must feel. I'm sure it will all work out eventually but it must feel like somebody kicked you in the stomach today. Hang in there.
