Well everything was all set for us to get Isabella on March 14th. She is 8 months old and was scheduled to get spayed today before coming home to us.

We were so excited. We have been corresponding with the breeder since December and talking with her about Isabella for over a month. The breeder let us know that she was a bit shy - she was also a bit small for her age - the two reasons why she was not going to be a show pup. When we met her she really came our of her shell. She had a blast playing fetch with us and warmed up to the point that she was climbing on our laps and kissing us up. I had gotten updates from the breeder that since we left she has become very attached to the ball we played fetch with and has been more outgoing. I was thrilled to hear that and felt like we made a real connection with her.

Today I got an email from the breeder that she has reconsidered placing her. Isabella has been more confident these past couple of weeks and also the breeder said that she got a bath last night and looked absolutely beautiful. Therefore she is now thinking about showing her after all.

I am so sad today - I cried when I read her email. I know she would have been a perfect fit in out home. We spent the weekend getting ready for Isabella - and bought EVERYTHING we needed for her - even her tags :( Now I have no pup on the way but a crate, bed, tons of toys, treats, a furminator, dremel, etc etc.

I just wanted to share my experience. I am sure I will find another pup and fall in love all over again but right now it doesn't feel like it. I don't know that a 7-10 week old puppy will work for us - we are prepared to give the exercise and attention a dog needs but not sure how we'd accommodate almost hourly potty breaks that come with a younger pup. The breeder did apologize and say she would try to help me find another corgi. I just wish this was decided earlier in the process - she was scheduled to come home in less than 2 weeks.

If anyone knows of someone with an older pup available in the greater Philadelphia area (or within driving distance) please let me know. Thanks. I have gotten so much information and inspiration from this site - it has just confirmed that a Corgi is the right breed for me. I appreciate everything!

I am sorry, please don't be angry at the breeder. I am sure she wasn't being vindictive or hurtful, though I know it really, really hurts you right now. As John said the right furbaby will come to you.

Oh what a sad tale. I'm so sorry.
I know it's hard, but be patient, persevere, get this right, this is family. Don't be impulsive. It's hard to be objective when furbies are tugging at your heartstrings and you've suffered this disappointment.
When the right dog comes along, you'll know.

And even though a puppy is a big committment, that process does have its rewards. We got Gwynn at nearly 6 months, but Al at 12 weeks.\[And isn't 12 weeks supposed to be a better age for breaking up a litter? I'd thought they learn some social skills in those last 4 weeks?]

We look forward to the happy resolution of this story.

It saddens me to hear you didn't get your isabella. I've been hearing about her for weeks. Kinda makes me angry that someone would get your hopes up and then let you down a few weeks before because now they all of a sudden want the dog.

I'm so sorry...what a HUGE disappointment. I do know of a 1 yr old Sable male in the Ohio area. Not completely housebroken but has a great temperament, loyal, walks well on a leash, been around kids, horses, cats, and will stick w/you off the leash.
