So I got in the mail this weekend my quarterly "Chuck and Don's Bark n Mews" from the Chuck and Don's Pet Food Outlet store (love this place).
I went through the ads and pulled a few of them I thought would work nicely. I ended up pulling up a "2 Free 13.2oz Lotus Canned Dog Food" coupon and grabbed up the "Chicken and Asparagus Stew" since I figured it would be easier on my dog's digestion.
Here is the run down on the ingredients:
First 5: Chicken, Chicken Broth, Chicken Liver, Asparagus, Long Grain Brown Rice
Continued: Baby Carrots, Oil blend (consisting of: soybean oil, olive oil, salmon oil and evening primrose), "Fresh" Blueberries , "Fresh" Cranberries; Green Lipped Mussels, Whole Egg, Norwegian Kelp, Ground Flax.... and it goes on into the other vitamins and minerals in the food. I put a quotation mark on fresh because, well, it's really not fresh it's in a can.
The cost is $2.99/can. So I was delighted to be able to try the food for just the cost of sales tax on two cans.
Once I opened the can, to my surprise it looked a lot like people food. The chicken is in chunks and looks like chicken meat (the stringy and pulled apart look when you pull meat off the cooked bone) and it actually smelled good, I mean for canned dog food that's a remarkable feat! It smells and looks as though if you added salt and pepper and threw some cooked noodles with it a person would easily eat it.
After feeding it to Buddha and to Maddelyn, I have not seen/smelt any gas or runny stool that can often be associated with changing up the food. I didn't feed a can at a time, probably only 2-3 tbsp per dog. Sorry about the fuzzy photo.
The company also has a Turkey and a Beef & Asparagus in the wet food.
