I just got two Pekin ducks as pets. They are about half grown. I got them partly for me as pets, partly (and luckily with good results so far) for Scout to have some mental stimulation and satisfy the herding instinct. She follows them, gets them into a corner, backs up until they are away from it, then herds them into the next corner.
I'm actually surprised how quickly her herding (and not hunting) kicked in. She only nipped once, then I corrected her and she's fine with them. Of course, Corgi and waterfowl will only get supervised visits just to be safe. One good thing about the ducks -- They aren't scared of her. They were raised with pygmy goats so I guess they are familiar with animals her size. They actually will follow her when she starts to walk away from them. They still aren't as used to humans, but hopefully I can get them socialized more in between herding.
We're doing good in the new house. Liking my new job and I get to start training for my CDL (to plow snow) next week. Scout is, on rare occasions, allowed to come to work with me, but I don't see a need for this as she does fine by herself (and I don't want to completely spoil her). Glad these 90 degree days are over. We haven't been on a good hike since right after we moved in and I'm sure she'll be thrilled to go out when we go again.
So all is well, we have two new "toys" and I'm glad to be back online. Everyone continue to have a safe fun summer.

OK. I'm at work now and can't upload anything, but by this afternoon, the duck herding video and pics will be posted!
