We are inland but getting pounded with rain. About 300,000 out of power in our greater region. As of this morning we already had 3.5 inches of rain and it's expected to rain until late this evening. The large stream that I can see from my house is close to its banks already and looks like it will go over, but we are well uphill from it and have other ways to get away from the house without driving past it. The biggest worry here is that we've had a very wet summer and the ground is already saturated. Trees will come down even with the tropical-storm force winds (up to around 50 mph) we are getting because the trees are so top-heavy with water and the ground around the roots is so soft. Our power has flickered a bunch of times but is still holding. I live on a hill so I'm not too worried (though there are some big trees that I'm keeping an eye on) but people in some low-lying areas are being asked to leave.
It's strange to hear about NYC flooding and subways being shut down. We're about 2.5 hours outside New York and I don't ever remember them evacuating, except of course for 9/11.
Yes, we also hope everyone stays safe. I have sent a message to a couple of people on MyCorgi and they both are "safe" and only expecting rain!
