Feeding my Corgi Pup - Need Advice on how much to feed her!

Hello,

I am new to the site and excited to join the Corgi community.  I wanted to hear some people's thoughts on feeding a corgi pup.  She's my first puppy and learning a lot but still need help.  My girl is now 11 wks old and I'm wondering if I am feeding her the right amount of food.  From reading stuff online to what the bag says, there is so much of a difference so any advice from experienced corgi owners would help! Online, I've read anywhere from 1 - 1/2 cups per day but the bag says only 1/2cup?

I feed her 2x a day about 1/2 cup per feeding (1 cup daily).  We dont do the 3x feeding because my bf and I both work and dont have anyone to come and give her the mid feeding.  She seems to be doing fine.  I also give her some frozen string beans (2) and a couple of treats (not more than 4 a day, and theyre tiny treats).  Is a cup daily too much or too little for 11 wks old?  She has water all day and she runs in the morning and evening so she is pretty active.  Just by looking at her, she seems to be fine but just want to make sure.  Also, she poops hrs after she eats, is this normal?  I would say anywhere from 2-3hrs after.

Thanks again for the advice!

Thanks Hayley.  Haha, it does!  Everyone says that their dogs go usually around 30 mins after they eat so I was so confused.  I guess every dog is different.  Right now we feed her about 1 1/4 cups a day with treats here and there. I give her frozen string beans or carrots and then she has her training treats when we are doing a session.  And yes, I'm sure if I left her a bag of food, she probably would eat the whole thing haha but thanks for letting me know that she is not the only later pooper hehe.  Maybe try some healthy snacks if she is still hungry? I'm actually surprised my pup likes string beans and carrots.  At this rate, I feel like she eats healthier than me...

I would love to have more straightforward feeding guidelines too! We have an 18 week old puppy and we are feeding her Acana, the sticker on the back says 270grams, but the label on the side and online says 120-150grams a day. I spoke to the customer support people and they said 150 grams max (1 cup and a quarter per day), but she seems hungry. I mean I Know corgi always want more, but I can kind of tell when she is properly hungry and when she is just being greedy.... However if it makes you feel better she has never really immediately pooped after eating. When she was 10 weeks old it was soon after feeding... but shes 18 weeks old and she can wait hours and hours! I hope you get some advice you can rely on!

Thanks Vicky!  I've been researching other dog food brands, Acana, Orijen, Buffalo Blue, Wellness, Innova, Canidae, there are so many "5 star brands" I dont know which one to use.  After her bag is done, I will definitely switch over.  I also was reading that with higher protein foods like Orijen, you actually feed them less because of the protein content.  I guess now I'm just wondering why it takes her awhile to go after she eats....

She pees just fine, drinks water all day and she poops about 3-4x a day but like i said, its usually awhile after she eats, not right away.

If you're using a commercial food, follow the instructions on the label.

When pups are little, they usually need to go outside pretty promptly after eating. As the dog ages, more time passes between scarfing down a meal and that...heh...sense of urgency. Sorta the same way as with humans. ;-)

If you can afford to switch away from Purina, it probably would be wise to do so. Buffalo Blue has a pretty good reputation. Look for companies that manufacture their dog food in the US with ingredients produced in the US. These are two different things.

She is eating Purina Pro Plan Puppy Chicken and Rice formula (dry) right now.  That is what the breeder was feeding her.  I was thinking of switching to Buffalo Blue which I heard was excellent.  She poops but it is hours after not 20-30 minutes after which is what I was told is what dogs normally do.  She is going regularly but after her dinner feeding, she poops usually 2-3hrs after.  Wasnt sure if this was normal.

Could you tell us precisely what food you are feeding? :)

And correct me if I'm wrong guys but pooping after eating is normal, yes? I know my dogs always did this.
