I have finally gotten the gang all microchipped!  I had written a few months ago that I didn't think I could afford it as I thought there was an annual fee attached to each chip and with three dogs, it was too much for me to pay.  Thanks everyone for setting me straight.  Another big thanks needs to go to a friend who gave me a heads up to a daily deal site that offered half price on microchipping through the local ASPCA.  I was able to get vouchers for all three dogs to get chips for $37.50!  I took them on Friday and now we are all set.  Even though I feel like I am very careful with keeping tags on them, I feel an extra level of safety now.  Thanks for all of the advice!

Yay! Its funny Amy you say they have gone down, Lol. I remember when microchipping was first offered like 15ish years ago and I had my dog chipped for $12, not quite understanding what the heck it was I was doing! Lol. My cat was recently lost for almost a week and it made me feel much better knowing he was chipped. He came home on his own in the end, but he is more like a dog than a cat so I knew if he decided to befriend somebody they could track me down as his owner.

Yay!!  I felt so much better once Lilly was chipped!  My vet verifies the chips every year when we get shots.

Verify your microchips when you visit the vet.   I did that on a whim once, and Gwynnie's gave no signal.  They fall out (usually soon after insertion), and they can migrate quite a ways around the body under the skin.
