First AKC Agility Trial was All-or-Nothing!

Ashton competed in his very first AKC Agility trial and we are so happy with him. He loves agility so much. We went into the trial hoping for the best but expecting, well, a corgi. He was the amazing all-or-nothing pup and competed in Standard (the course with the A-frame, tunnels, dog walk, etc..) and in Jumpers With Weaves (like it sounds, jumps and weave poles, sometimes a tunnel). During the three day trial he would NQ (not qualify) on one of his runs and be a super star in the other.

Day one: Standard he got into the chute and got lost. Not sure how that happened but if you can imagine your corgi under a blanket, head turning like he's looking around, that is pretty much what he was like. He then decided the best course of action was to turn around and come back out to see if there was another way. He looked at the side of the chute, then the other side, then finally decided to go through it. He went over course time by 7 seconds because of that adventure. Honestly it was hard not to laugh it was so cute! JWW he scored 100 and took home the Blue.

Day two: Standard he was on. Scored 100 and got another Blue. JWW... he was having a beautiful run until something caught his eye and he ran through the middle of the course to look at someone/something outside the ring. He didn't leave the ring but it was waaaaay off course. I knew it was the end when his expression changed from focused to that big "oh hi there!" corgi smile. Well, at least what ever distracted him made him really happy.

Day three: Standard he had another perfect run. Scored 100 and got another Blue. Video of this run was taken by one of our agility club members (thanks Cindy!) and I think the best part is his Superman flying leap into the tunnel! JWW he decided that the bar setter was being neglected by far too many competitors so he went off course to say hi to him. Once again, big o' corgi smile while running off course all the while my hubby trying to get him to re-focus. He is such a corgi!

All in all it was a wonderful experience. My hubby had a blast and said he hadn't had that kind of competitive rush since high school sports. Ashton got his first agility competition under his belt and over all had a great time (lots of loves and treats, two things that make for a happy corgi). Me, I caught a cold and was incredibly nervous. I'm not sure if I can handle the stress! LOL

Love him getting lost in the tunnel!   We are beginners at agility.  Jack is oh-so-very-fast.... until something catches his eye and he wanders away on me.  I love the description of Ashton getting lost in the tunnel.  I'd love to know what goes through their little heads!

That's a great picture! I'm impressed. I have no idea what all of that means, but congratulations!!!! I can't help but laugh at the visual of the corgi, deep in concentration, suddenly off on another tangent, a mind of his own.
