I am getting myself ready before I get a puppy, I'm on a list for a breeder. I have slowly gathered everything I think I'll need, minus food, collar, leash (I want to wait to make sure I get something that fits).

I have seen a lot of people use xpens/playpens for pups when they are younger, for when they can't watch them or if they have to get up and do something, etc. I got a 30" high one to use at home, but my house is pretty much completely carpet! Not good for puppy accidents and clean up!

Do you have any suggestions for what I could use, cleaner-wise, or maybe get some tile or a mat/rug to put under the pen?

Any other puppy suggestions would be great!!

I'd go to Lowes or other home improvement/flooring store and see if they have any scraps of linoleum that would work.

online you can get rubber floor pads that fit to the size of your pen and have a tiny 2" wall on all sides to keep the pen from sliding or being pushed off of it. :]

The flooring in our kitchen/dining area was too dark and slightly uneven so it was hard to see if/where Rhys had accidents. We went to Home Depot trying to find a piece of linoleum, but they claimed they didn't have any (ha). So they directed us to the remnant/rolled up scraps of vinyl and we bought a roll in a lighter color. We cut a piece to line the x pen, and corgdad used the leftover scrap piece to line a section of our living room rug where they play together just in case he gets too excited. Also, our breeder recommended buying heavy duty garbage bags (like the ones contractors use) and cutting it open to lay flat, too. Easy clean-up because if it's a mess, you can just throw it away!

I bought cheap shower curtians and lined the floor, worked great!

I buy a large piece of linoleum so it is at least a foot larger than the pen on all sides. I use a plastic potty pan with newspapers in it. I clean all accidents with either peroxide or a green cleaner that is non-toxic to animals.
