I am picking up a red Pembroke female, , 1yr old, tonite. She had been adopted but family returned her to original owner( per agreement) due to unforseen circumstances NOT involving any pup issues. I am a 1st time Corgi owner, and have been reading up like a mad woman but would welcome ANY advice, photos of YOUR reds and things "you wish you'd known! We live in PA now, but will soon be relocating to Upstate NY. Love to meet any NY Corgi folks! Share, share, share!!!!!
Thanks!

SHE'S HERE!
I didn't get my lil Red til this morning........
The breeder mom was delightful but not forthcoming with anything but TONS of kindness. I didn't really know what questions to ask, so Lil Red just popped up in the back seat and off I went. With very little "oh , hey, you should know this..." info.

Guess the "smell o Dog" is something I'll get used to...RIGHT???
I brought the sweetheart home, her eyes melting my heart the whole way , we wandered the yard, peed, pooped, ( her, not I) I waited til I got INSIDE!;)and in we went inside to her new home.

She licked my legs, stared at me for an hour, definitely disliked her food ( suggestions?)
had a sip of water and went back to staring at me. I asked her if she wanted to get in the tub and wash up. She ran into the bathroom. Good cue, huh?

We shampooed, we towel dried, we even blowdried on low heat. We donned our new PINK collar with the big BOW, painted our nails and THEN I SAW IT. Blood. ALL OVER THE BATHROOM. After resuming BREATHING, I began to search for the cause. Checked one end- nothing there . Checked all 4 paws. Fine and dandy. Checked the end with the HEAD and saw that she had bitten her tongue( she might have MENTIONED THIS!) and as she shook the excess water off after all the drying we did, she COVERED my loo in BLOOD! BIG GOOEY SHINEY SCAREY DOG BLOOD! I blotted her tongue called the vet, ( who told me to get a GRIP) held her, cried in her fur because I thought I killed my first doggie, and then wept in her fur because she WASN'T going to die.
I should have expected nothing less.
And I am supposed to NAME HER NOW?
AFTER ALL THIS DRAMA.?!
She stayed so calm, so ...Cool, I want to call her JANE. Plain Jane~ the "I don't do drama dog". But she's so pretty she deserves better.
I have 2 cats that were bequested to me when my 26 year old son diied last year, Daizee and Dexter. I am
Requesting the help of my fellow Corgites in naming this gal. I will try to get a pic on soon. I prefer a D name, but frankly, II have a bit of PTSD after the BLOOD EVERYWHERE thrill. Can you help? ALL names considered, even non D names!
Exhausted and a litttle lightheaded,
With puppy love,
Carsynn

You won't regret and you'll never live life w/o a Corgi being a part of it. They are magical and their true beauty is so much deeper then the exterior.

Nicola, I want to turn your quote into a bumper sticker. You nailed it!

Corgis quickly gain access to your heart and then never leave.

Congrats! I have a little red-head (my corgi #2) who is just 14 months. She is a devil (in the best possible sense!) At this age, she's still a puppy -- wants to play a ton, interested in everything, eats everything (and I mean, EVERYTHING). Do you know if your puppy is crate trained? That helped me a lot with both of my puppies. The only thing I wish I'd known about Corgis -- is that I wish I'd known about Corgis years go! I got my first 4 years ago, and am completely besotted with the breed. Have fun!

Congratulations! I don't regret anything about having a corgi as part of my family, and I'll never have another kind of dog. Corgis ROCK!
