Gromit had a fine birthday day. He slept in, then had his usual breakfast. We went to the vet for an official weighing to confirm that he is back on his diet. Then it was off to Pet Smart for a pedicure and buying a new Hedge Hog squeaky toy.
Then we headed home for the dreaded brushing...
Gromit doesn't dread the brushing, I do.

Then he posed for his formal portrait in the official posing spot in the living room.

He hasn't changed much since last year, lost some weight, is a little wiser, a little more mature now that Sparkle has come on the scene.

To look this serious he must be thinking about food.

Then he got his new squeaky toy to play with.

A little tug just to warm up.

The the serious work beings
And in typical fashion Gromit ripped the face off it and pulled it’s brains out.
"Please sir, we want some more."

They haven't killed the squeaker yet so the hedge hog will live on a little longer.

Happy 3rd birthday, big guy!

If they actually swallowed much of the plastic I would think it would be bad for them but I've heard stories of amazing things wending through a dog's digestive system only to emerge in a day or so.

ooops. j/k all corgis are smart. but, i always avoid toys with squeakers because I think they could be dangerous.

Are the sqeakies dangerous if swallowed by a dumb Corgi?

Comment by John Wolff on October 3, 2012 at 6:24pm

I had never thought of the danger of a squeaky on one's person accidentally discharging.  Those things have no safety catch.  It's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt or killed.  It's probably already happened -- a gruesome mauling blamed on bears, wild animals, or psycho killers -- or missing persons (there might be nothing left).  As we speak, teams of hapless homicide detectives may be working overtime hunting nonexistent serial killers whose erstwhile victims were done in by something as innocently treacherous as a squeaky shoe.

I'll do a search of the tabloid literature.

John, as far as I know the fur never stop coming off no matter how much I brush.  I just pick a stopping point and say "Enough for now" before I get carpal tunnel tennis elbow Corgi brushing wrist.

That's all the fur that comes off him, even with a furminator?

Is something wrong?  Nutritional problem?  Maybe he needs fish oil or omega-3 fatty acids or extra protein?  Did they check his thyroid (I've heard that thyroid insufficiency can cause shedding problems)?

Gosh, I hope he's OK.

Happy Birthday, Gromit!

He looks beautiful in his birthday portraits.

The picture of your pants cracked me up!  People are always asking me about our Corgis and most want to know if they shed much!  I tell them if they have to ask about shedding they don't want a Corgi!

Happy B-day Gorgeous Gromit. Looks like Daddy gave you a FUN day, and he got some great photos, to boot!

Thanks John.  Just don't hide a squeaky in those polar fleece pants.  You could roll over in your sleep and things could turn ugly with Al & Gwynnie as they go after it.

Happy birthday Gromit.  Very nice pics, Doug, esp. the hapless hedgie caught between two ravening corgwyn.

I am inspired.  I'm gonna post a photo of what I look like in my polar fleece pants and jacket after spending a night in a sleeping bag with a corgi.
