At 4pm I was able to go pick up the little guy. It's been determined that he has colitis, and after 7 hours on the IV he looks so much better. (He has some very nasty gas right now, though so it's very hard to give him lots of lovins!)
We still don't know what triggered the colitis. I am wondering if it may have had to do with a dog food switch, since he eats Taste of The Wild Buffalo formula and we mixed in some of the Salmon formula (a sample from the pet store) for a couple of days. To be on the safe side, no more salmon for him!
He has medication and tomorrow he can try eating some boiled chicken and rice.
I thought that the amount that they charged me was decent: 219.00 which included a parvo test, a giardia test, his iv, meds, hospitalization for the day, the vet visit, a shot of peptobismol-like stuff, and a few other things.
I am so relieved now.
Thank you to everyone who kindly responded to my blog post. I was so scared that something was majorly wrong and that we would lose him...and even more scared when the vet took so long to call. You all were so wonderful and your comments were just what I needed. :)
