Bear went through a chewing phase, two pieces of molding and the corner of a step - all within about a month - since then, nothing. I would go to a crate for a while, just to keep him safe, linoleum can't be good for the digestion. Mine love their crates.
Thanks Carla and Bev. I have been trying all different things to stimulate him. He gets his meals in a Boda ball, so he has to work for his breakfast and dinner. He also has several different Nylar bones including the one for power chewers. We work on basic commands several times a week and have started to try to heel with walking. He has the puppy and large size Kong and was given the Kong stuffer in a can by one of my patients. I'm wondering if this is puppy adolescence.

Teresa, I always put some cheese or peanut butter in the Kong before leaving. Just smear it around or mix it with some of his kibble and freeze it overnight. It will give him something fun to do during the 6 hours you are gone. Some days if I am not going anywhere Misty, the one we always crate, will bring the Kong to me and drop it in my lap!
He's probably just bored and full of energy. I agree with the crating, as others have mentioned. I recall you saying that he has an issue with one of his legs, so he's not allowed to run or exert himself physically a lot anymore - that makes things so much more difficult! You're going to have to use your imagination to find him things he can do/chew on that don't require vigorous activity. Mental stimulation can be as exhausting as physical - I would do daily training, reinforcing older commands and teaching new ones or tricks to tire him out. You can also try some of the numerous treat dispencing toys out there - that may expend some energy. I've heard antlers are a good chew item as well, though I haven't tried one myself.

Remember, crates are not evil. ;)

Thanks for the advise. We will get a crate tomorrow. Baron is 7 months old. Is it alright to leave him in a crate for a maximum of 6 hours. I work 8-10 hour days and am able to get home for lunch most days. If I can't get home I have a pet sitter come in. He only started the destructive chewing after we put him on exercise restrictions.

I have crate trained my dogs since the day they came to live with us at 8 weeks old. The puppies were always crated unless my husband or I could watch them. Today, my dogs are only crated when we are at work, for at the most 4 hours at a time.....we are lucky because we both get to go home for staggered lunch hours. They are not crated at night; they each have their own beds in our bedroom (although Maggie usually sleeps on the bed with us, she is such a cuddle bug). I am on mycorgi.com everyday & can't believe everything puppies/dogs will eat....I guess I have been very lucky, my dogs have never chewed on a piece of furniture, the flooring or a window sill. Good luck Teresa!!
Yes, crates are good and all mine love theirs...unfortunately I have carpet to reming me of the time I should have crated one and didn't but luckily it's in a corner out of sight...I'm thinking tile would be nice someday!
When Lilli was good enough to be let out of her crate and into the small laundry room for short times, she ate the laundry room floor. Oops. I guess she wasn't ready. Now she would never dream of something like that. Crate's are great. Puppies grow up.
