They have inflatable e-collars that you can purchase. It is full of air and goes around the pets neck allowing him to eat and drink but doesn't allow them to touch the sx site. The brand is ProCollar Good Luck

When Fox got snipped, they put on a blue, flexible e-collar that made him look like a morning glory. When we got home he was able to slip out of the collar several times (he is quite determined). Finally, I left it off, and put him in his crate for the remainder of the day. The next day, we ended up getting tranquilizers from the vet (enough for 4 days), to keep him from running around so much. We were lucky - he didn't even seem to pay much attention to the stitches.
