How does Cassie the Corgi know that the sound effects of a Mah Jongg game mean the Human is playing and not working, and therefore fair game for Ball Pestering?
How does the Corgi know when, as we jog around our mile-long tour of the neighborood, when I lengthen my stride so she can go a little faster...even before the stride has started to get any longer?
How does the Corgi know there's a cat in the front courtyard?
How does the Corgi know the vacuum cleaner intends to eat her?
How does the Corgi know, long before the Human picks up a dog leash or a hat or a set of keys or a coyote shilelagh, when the Human is going for a Doggy Walk and when the Human is going out the same door with no intention of taking a dog with her?
How does the Corgi know (and begin to bark ecstatically) when the Human approaches the house from outdoors, on foot, silently?
How does the Corgi know when the Human is faking it when the Human claims not to be able to reach Ball, just because the absurd creature does not wish to throw Ball for the 111th time?
How does the Corgi know the vehicle approaching, almost a quarter-mile away, is the generic Ford engine of the generic Ford crossover Son drives and sometimes, occasionally, rather rarely, shows up in with Charley the Golden Retriever?
How does the Corgi know that Charley the 90-pound retriever is smaller than she is? How, come to think of it, does Charley know the Corgi is bigger than he is?
What does your Corgi know?

He knows the difference between t.v. shows, he knows when you really need to be cheered up, he knows the difference of my hand sanitizers, he knows when my husband is leaving for deployment, he knows when I'm sick, he knows when the cat is about to try and play with him before she can even make the first move, he knows when it's bath time, he knows when something comes for him in the mail, he knows when it's game night and people will be coming over. He also knows when I'm having trouble sleeping or going to pass out. If I didn't have such a headache from him running laps around me right now, I'd probably list some more.
They know the generic Dodge truck before it turns the corner, they know how to tell time for meals and bed. On weekends when I stay downstairs past 9:30 they both sit there and stare at me and stare at me and then stare some more until I go get their bedtime treats.
And if it wasn't so late and I wasn't so tired I could think of more things they know....which is too much for my own good.
