Keep treats in tight glass jars. Plastic bags are porous to odors; I don't think they seal well.
Remember that training treats can be very, very tiny, match-head sized.
For special rewards (like Emergency Recall refresher training), something extra-special like bacon.
Screw-cap prescription containers are good for the doggie fannypack.
I would count veggies as treats, if your dog thinks it's a treat it's a treat. Mine do not really like the raw veg, but I do give them some frozen veggies that are cooked. Biscuits and treats can add the calories so I buy the smallest ones or break them up.
We were eating some take out burgers last week and Hercules was looking at me and I said you can't eat this it is bad for you. Bad for me as well, yup I am more careful with the dogs food.
Currently we have on hand Charlee Bear which we rotate through the flavors, Wellness WellBites Soft and Chewy Treats, CET HEXtra Premium Chews, Homemade Tuna Training Treats and Smoked Turkey. Those are all his "good" treats. His junk food would be Beggar Dog Biscuits, Old Mother Hubbard or Milkbones.
So currently he only has 8 on hand.
We also have stuff like his refills for his "Everlasting Treat Ball", sweet potato treats and such but only when we make a trip out of town to get dog supplies. Most of the packaged treats are made out of the US and that makes us very wary. It's funny, my hubby and I will eat gut rot from fast food places but we read the labels on Ashton's food. LOL
I have exactly 0 bags of treats. Ella gets her food, and she gets green beans or carrots as a "treat". We did have dental treats, but she ate the last one yesterday and I need to pick up more today. But even dental treats she only gets one every other day.
Now I feel like a mean mom. But she really does love veges.
We have a whole bin of dog treats! Some are duds, like Trader Joe's jerky treats. Others are must haves, Old Mother Hubbard Bits are the only treats that fit in Amy's treat ball. We have a bag of Charlee Bear treats that fit but she doesn't like them and Twinkie just follows Amy and eats them as they fall out. We have also have a puzzle toy that only uses Milk Bones. So spoiled!
10 different kinds: 1 for distraction toys (Charlee Bears...lo-cal and locale!), 1 for a good morning/first potty reward, 1 for training, 1 for bedtime (I bake these), 1 I haven't opened yet, 1 quick chew and 4 different kinds of longer chews.
I'm nuts.
