Hug your Furbabies. *Warning - Dog Death*

On Thursday night, my sister and I were coming home from Wal-Mart. I like to take the backroads through the desert areas because there isn't any traffic. There was a car a good distance in front of me that suddenly stopped in the road. I don't want to go into too much detail, but the driver of the other car had hit a small dog and kicked it out of the road and sped off. My sister and I got out to see if we could help, but the pup died quickly. There was no tag, so I couldn't call the owners to tell them what had happened, and it was almost 11pm, there was no one outside. I felt so helpless, I have never seen anything die before. I've run over mice on the backroads (which makes me cringe), but I can't imagine hitting a dog and leaving it there to die like that. I went home and held Bulma. All I could think about while I was trying to fall asleep was what had happened. I told my husband that whenever she goes outside, she has to wear a collar and the gate has to be locked. I know that sounds paranoid, but I have to protect my girl. Hug your furbabies tight and keep them safe.

Thanks everyone. I understand that accidents happen, it was a dark road, but to just kick an animal out of the road after hitting it is so cold and heartless.

I had to drive down the same road the next morning and he was gone, so at least his owner found him and hopefully buried him.

I'm so sorry for this experience. Your not paranoid, you're just being a responsible and loving owner for your furry family member/s. Sadly there's a lot of people in the world who just don't care what happens to animals. If they don't benefit from it, they could careless sad to say. Hugs from us and Dodger. Stay safe!

So sorry you had to go through this. You are not paranoid. Mine also wear their collars 24/7. There are people out there that just don't care....unfortunately.

No, not paranoid.  Mine are chipped and both wear their collars all the time...inside and out.

I am so sorry that you had to deal with the aftermath.

Not paranoid at all. Stay safe! Things can happen so quickly.
