Today is the first day that Jackson has gone into his crate by himself. And he's done it 4 times to nap. Makes me so happy :D :D :D
He's been home for almost two weeks! I think he definitely knows his crate is his "safe place" though I'm shaking it up a bit by getting him a bigger kennel this week. The crate I have for him now is maybe about 20" long which I admittedly bought on a whim because I needed something. But I figure now is the time, while he's still learning, to get accustomed to sleeping in the kennel he'll sleep in for the rest of his life. I might even get adventurous and remove the towel I have placed over his crate. We'll see how that works.
Jackson is learning "NO" so well! I haven't had many more issues with biting and now when he gets feisty he usually goes to town on one of his chewies.
We also had our first puppy play date with a friend's 10 week old chow/dachshund mix, and another friend's 4 month old chihuahua/dachshund mix. It was so cute to watch Jackson observe them at first when they played. He was so hesitant to join in but when he finally did he was having the time of his little life!
En route to the puppy date, Jackson rode the bus for his first time! I'm very interested in adapting him to public transit, since I am carless in a big city, he will be riding more when he is bigger. For now he was in his crate and slept the whole way - I was so proud of him!!
I can't wait to do a real puppy play date through one of the organizations here next week. We're two weeks away from our next set of shots, too. There's a lot of exciting stuff coming up for us and I'm just so glad my little guy is doing well.
Our housemate's dog returns later this week so I'm sure that will provide an additional learning experience for us :)
Until next time!!!
Kari & Jackson
