I almost feel like a crazy person because I've emailed so many people looking for a corgi. Did any one else email a lot of people looking for your corgi? If so how many? I'm just trying to make myself not feel as psycho, haha. I emailed all of them exactly one month ago today, with the exception of about 3 of them, and only one has emailed me back so far. However, she said she is going to BREED her dogs in July, meaning they probably won't be born until August and won't be ready to take home until around December. Thats 9 months away (it's like waiting for a human baby!)
I was hoping to find someone who would have a puppy ready to take home in the summer time because I'm still a student in college and I know it would be better if I got a puppy during the summer when I have more time to devote to training in the important puppy days. If I was only in school, it wouldn't be so bad but I also work so that really leaves little time once school is in. I don't want to be away from my new puppy that much when he's so young. My roommate will always be there because she doesn't work, however this poses a problem. I'm sure when all of you got your puppies you wanted to train them to behave the way that you wanted. I fear that if I'm not there to instill the good habits I want when he's young, my roommate might potentially inadvertently promote behaviors I don't want. She's the kind of person who will go gaga over a puppy and potentially treat the dog like a lap dog and spoil him. I also worry she might feed him people food (NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!) So those are the main reason why getting a puppy during the summer is the best for both me and the dog. I know that you can't always count on someone having a little when YOU need them to. That's obvious and I know that, but I would hate if I had to wait another whole year until summertime again to get a puppy. I've already been waiting so long!
Did anyone run into any issues like this or have similar feelings/experiences? If so, I would like to know. It would make me feel a little bit better about my situation!
P.S. Pressing enter does not reflect any real break in one new paragraph to the next. How do I get it to do that? Thanks in advance! =)

Hi again, Kaley. :) I'm glad to hear you have things so thoroughly planned out! Hopefully you didn't think I had implied immaturity. After I posted I realized that you had already explained about being in school and your plans in another post, so then I felt a bit silly mentioning it all again. Sorry! ;)
By the way, if you want to put a break between paragraphs, then switch over to HTML (the html button all the way to the right) and where you see empty paragraph tags < p >, then you just pop two < br/ > in between (without the spaces between the brackets. If there are no empty paragraph tags, then put them at the end of the paragraphs.
For example:
< p >This would be an example paragraph and you would put the tags at the end, like so.< br/ >< br/ >< /p >
If there is an empty paragraph ( < p >< /p > then it would look like this: < /p >< br/ >< br/ >< /p > All without the spaces, of course. ;)

Here's the ad. Sounds kind of suspicious, but I'll see what the poster says...
What are you looking for and how far can you travel? Just came across a Craigslist ad with what sounds like mostly corgi mixes that are 2 months old. One sounds like a RHT. One sounds like a BHT. There's also a female blonde adult corgi (or so it says) I emailed the person and am going to see what comes up. May be a dead end or a BYB just trying to get rid of an accident litter, but who knows?
I'm hoping not to drive farther than 8 hours in any direction (which for my location gives me A LOT of options) i live in baton rouge. so far i've found breeders in houston, austin, dallas, and a few towns in north louisiana. so right now i'm looking at 4-7 hours away if i choose any one of those. i recently started searching in mississippi and alabama as well. the main reason i was hoping for something in texas is because i'm originally from there and i'm very familiar with the drive to houston, austin, and dallas but i'm now currently broadening my horizons.
thinking i might finally make some calls tomorrow (saturday). do you think a lot of the breeders might be at a show on a saturday? do you think it would be better if i called on a week day?
Well, wow. I don't know how many breeders I emailed, but it was WAY more than twelve. I had (well, have) over 200 breeder's websites-Pembrokes alone. (Now I feel psycho haha.. Since apparently 12 is psycho to other people.. Sighh.) Now, I am not saying that all of them, or even half, were reputable, but I did email just about all of them. Almost none replied, and the ones that did were not people who should have puppies bought from, I learned while talking with them.
I would just wait another year for a puppy.. I mean, if you are really worried about not having time-unless you do find a breeder who has a litter now, then I say go for it. But don't stress out too bad and please don't get a puppy when you will be away all the time-not only will it do the behavior thing, but if your roomate is the one spending the most time with your pup, he will probably get more attached to her, and you wouldn't want that!
I started with the Mayflower website. It is a New England corgi club. I emailed about ten or twelve breeders, those within driving distance. Four contacted me, I had a quick favorite. I filled out the paperwork for two and arranged to visit each. I also wanted a reputable breeder. I've lucked out. One of the two had an eight month old become available. She had kept two from last summers litter and decided the other fit her program better. I'll pick her up Saturday.
I too was planning on a summer puppy. I teach and also have summers off. You may have mentioned it in another post, but where are you from? What distance are you willing to travel?
It took me a while too, and didn't ever hear back from some of them. The ones I did, mostly didn't have any puppies and had waiting lists for expected litters. I 'lucked out' when I talked to my cousin who has a corgi and she referred me to her breeder. We still had to wait, but got pick of her next litter. I started looking at the first of 2011 and it was August before we got our puppy.
HA HA!! I love your p.s. Kaley, that's hilarious!!
oh and as a side note, i never go out. i'm a huge homebody so i spend most of my time at home. (apologies, apparently when i was typing my comment two others commented in the mean time) i understand everyone's concerns and quite frankly, i was wary to even mention that i was a student because i knew there would be concerns. my dad is an analyst and i am the only one of my siblings who took after him in this way. i'm the most organized of both my sisters and always always always plan ahead (and budget EVERYTHING). i am well aware of the costs of a new puppy and the time needed. i'm not just some naive college student, nor do am i the typical college student (i.e. "WOOOO COLLEGE!!") i know it's hard to trust some random person on the internet, but i ask that you try to trust me when i say that i wouldn't even be considering this so seriously if i didn't know i was 100% ready to take on the responsibility of owning a dog. this is partly because it's not about me and what i want, but what's best for the dog. it would be completely selfish and irresponsible of me to get a dog if i knew i couldn't take care of it properly and devote all of the time needed. i know that being responsible for another life is a huge deal and i wouldn't be so callous as to put my own desires first. if i didn't know i was ready, i wouldn't be putting the dog's life at risk.
i appreciate all of your concerns. as i mentioned in the previous post, it's a true sign of an animal lover, and an excellent owner.
p.s. i ask that you please don't judge my maturity because of the fact that i don't capitalize anything in my posts. that's just ignorance and i purposely don't do it because this is informal and i don't feel it is necessary.
